I, personally, wouldn't want some a55clown asking me questions during a match. Especially if I make a good shot and leave a ringing 10. They may hear nothing but bleeps coming out of me

I think this is a good idea.  It sort of sucks the viewer into the action and it becomes a more interactive and interesting show. I think they should take this a step further, and let the viewers post their questions to Randy/Rob and then let them ask the questions to the bowlers.

But of course, we need to use common sense and have rules aroung this.
We do not want the questions interfering with the bowlers performance.

Maybe, make a rule, that the questions can only be asked while the
bowler is sitting down and not bowling.  And, maybe, limit the questions
to one or two per bowler per game this way you are not annoying the
bowler with too many questions while he is waiting to bowl.

I think, the PBA has to come up with new ideas to promote the sport and
gain more interest in it, so that the pros can make a better living.

First have to agree this is a bad idea by the PBA. Hopefully when the real tour starts up (after the series of bowling tournaments) and have telecasts set up like they used to, they will abolish what they are doing.

The "player miced up interviews during bowling" is poorly timed during the match. I would be for during commercials? Why not? Then they could play that during live bowling. I would think what they are doing is not only distracting to the bowler but also to the opponent. You think Walter couldn't hear Barnes talking? The Six Flags event was one thing because it was more for fun so the players didn't care. I find what they are doing in a sanctioned PBA event very strange and unecessary. It's different then the World Series in baseball when the announcers are doing live interviews during a game to the managers because they aren't playing and there isn't a shot clock.

The miked up situation may be to educate what the bowler is having to do. Its obvious to see Tiger avoid a sand trap or a water hazard in golf, but hearing Chris Barnes tell the audience what is going on on the lanes helps those who have less knowledge about lane conditions etc...

I actually liked the way it was handled with Barnes on last Sunday's show.  Short and sweet and between games and some very good info from Barnes.

If this is the way it's going to be handled all the time I think it's a good thing.

Going to have to write a folo-up blog when I get the time.

While the miking of a player is always up to the player's discretion, this (Barnes' talking while WRW was preping for his shot, is one aspect I hadn't thought about. Chris did keep it short, probably more not to distract himself, but his voice, no matter how low, was probably capable of distracting WRW or whoever the opposing player might be.

That alone is reason enough not to do this.

while their thought process in the heat of the action is fascinating to many of us, ultimately it has to be distracting to the player and the the opponent. It's like the a**holes in the supermarket talking to thin air and then when you look closely, they're talking into a bluetooth device. You first thought they were talking to you. STupid!

if you cant focus with one person whispering
you couldn't focus enough to make it on tv
come on 10years ago they bowled with screaming fans
its a nice feature
