Perfect power?

When I talk to other bowlers they often talk about power in terms of revs.

Ie someone would say for example....Chris Barnes is a powerful bowler!  Say 425 rpms(my guess).  Someone else would say Robert Smith is a powerful bowler(say 550  to 600 rpms).
Others who saw him would say Jimmy Keeth(rip) was a very powerful bowler(say 700 rpm).

Yet when I think of perfect power in bowling I think of Walter Ray near the end of his game this week driving the ball so hard and straight to the break pointas he did on the show this week until he tossed a weak pull to the left!  As we say in some other games...blub blub!  

To me....that's power the ability to drive the ball ....hard level and straight or close to straight to the break point.  Mika's got it!  Patrick Allen at his free armswinging best is fantastic atthsi .

Dave Davis th espeedy and elegant lefty who can drive it down the lane with no apparant efffort at near 19 mph at the pin deck has power of this kind in spades!

Randy Pederson at his level best throwing 10 or so years ago...now there is a man with Power!!!

PS what do you think power is?
PPS do you think that Chris BArnes when dropping it into follow line with his 425 to 450 revs....is powerful???

The answer to that question is no that Chris Barnes is not a power player.There are others that are more so.Tommy Jones,Jason Hurd,Robert Smith,Steve Cook,John Gant,Jimmy Keeth and ther may be some others as well.But these are ones that come to my mind that has power with revs and don't forget Rudy K as well.

AGain....I am disputing this point and saying power is NOT revs...it is instead the ability to DRIVE the ball to the breakpoint!

When I was at Kegel they gave lower figures for Mr. Smith.

He may have gone back or they are just growing like fine wine!

PS at that tiem the figures I gave were accurate and Jimmy Keeth was almost 100 rpms higher than Mr. Smith

If that's the case how come on every article you read they say that Robert Smith has the highest rev rate on tour?  He was also clocked at having a 700+rpm strike shot and a 34mph spare shot.

I agree in that rev rate and speed doesn’t necessarily equal power.

The key is matching up speed, revs, breakpoint, etc to maximize the balls hitting potential for carry at the pocket.

All the guys on tour have learned to do this.

Walter Ray throws hard to keep his ball from hooking too soon and the ball losing its carry potential. He is not going to throw as many hits that have a scout to take out the ten because of his entry angle.

But the ability to turn the pins into shrapnel doesn’t do you any good if you can only hit the pocket 3 times a game.

Everybody wows at Rudy but it looks like he is going back to the tour qualifier for the 3rd time. All his power isn’t helping him get exempt.

It is the proper application of power that wins.

I can only relate to you that I have seen the 700 rpm rev rate for Mr. Smith reported at this website...but while at Kegel they talked in the 600 range.

Several years ago.

Jimmy Keeth(RIP) went up there and broke the 700 barrier and that was the new record.

Jimmy also often threw spare balls over 30 mph!

What pure phyisical talent!

Both players have/had it in spades!

I believe it is penetration to the breakpoint.....

I understand that but from the vid of Jimmy Keeth that is posted on here it doesn't look like he is even close to 600 rpm.  However it's tough to tell by looking at the vid.

Lucky take a look at the PBA site and look under Robert Smith.  It talks a little about his rev rate.  I will locate some articles that I have seen before about that.

Lucky I understand what your saying.
