Urethane used a lot on the Viper pattern.
« on: August 18, 2009, 02:11:16 AM »
From what I seen from watching the guys on the Viper Championship, the lanes were hooking a lot.
A few of the women I know commented on how they could not keep the ball out of the 1-5 pocket.LOL!
And what did two of the finalist use most of the week ? Urethane.
Good things do come back in style.

Urethane has been extremely popular to start the season, it seems like everyone who can throw one is throwing one. I'm real curious to know if it has to do with the new 09-10 patterns or if it's just because the center has a lot of friction.

On Xtra Frame it has been said that Urethane is working for two reasons. One the old and extremely high friction surface in the Arena bay and two the low amount of oil volume. Tim Mack and Jason Couch have commented that even on the longer patterns the oil volume is not very high.

The center has 20 year old synthetics, which make up for a ton of friction. This is why the Tour trial scores were so low. The only reason the cheetah pattern scores are high is because the gutter hasn't been used much so its a better part of the lane.

Must be the new storm natural. Seismic is coming out with a high performance urethane next month. This is good to see it has a place some where.

Lots of factual errors here, and I know since I used to bowl league at Thunderbowl. The Main part of the center, where the Tour trials and men's qualifying are held, have very new Pro-Anvilane, which I think is about a year old. Tour trial scores were low since all of the patterns were re-done for the trials and nobody knew what to expect, with the exception of Cheetah which was changed into pretty much the old-fashioned "throw it at the gutter" Cheetah. Most of the other patterns, particularly Viper, seem to have had drastic changes.

The lanes in the Arena, where the men's match play and all of the women's competition is going on, are the old Anvilane, and I think are the lanes that used to be in the Main part of the center, so those lanes would be 20-ish years old and have high friction.
