Pete Weber has WD
« on: April 04, 2009, 09:36:17 AM »
They say he pulled a muscle in practice and has pulled out. Mike Edwards has taken his place and the extra points from 24th puts him inside the cut line!

Just kinda fishy he's in 8th and pulls out....first alternate available is Mike which saves his career.  From what I hear they used to be roommates....

I'm just irritated because this could have cost my friend his spot.

A pulled muscle is a pulled muscle, pete wouldn't have pulled out being so close to making the show without something being wrong.

Kenny, I can see where Russell is coming from...I am assuming he's talking about Sterner..

Mike gets a spot in match play, just for being in the building at the time of Pete's withdrawal. Edwards is 36th after the casher's round.. No other bowler between him and 24th place after that round stayed around for the chance of being an alternate.

By Edwards getting into match play, he'll get the points for whatever position he finishes in. 24th place points would be enough to jump Jason Sterner and Todd Book in the points race.. Jason was the cut line if the season ended without Richie Wolfe or Monacelli winning tomorrow.

I believe this happened with Billy Oatman last year or the year before when a bowler's withdrawing bumped him a few spots in the standing thus allowing him to sneak into the points cut line..

I'm not going to play the conspiracy card, but I can see where this is going to be an issue. If you're hurt you're hurt simply put, but the irony of Mike and Pete being friends and this happening is just strange.

really sucks for Jason in the end..

Actually it won't be.  Then it just be Todd Book in Jason's position.  Edwards is safe no matter what.  Its Mr Book that is A BIG Duke, Scroggins, or Barnes fan.

I wanted to see Amleto win...but I want Book to keep his exemption, especially since it wouldn't matter if Pete hadn't "hurt himself ".

just got this off the pba forums:

"Was just told by Sterner that the PBA was handling the situation and that if Wolfe does not win tomorrow Sterner will retain his exemption. It seems fair seeing how the PBA has done similar stuff like this before anyways. Like when they let Mike Machuga on the tv show this year as the 5th spot when they were only supposed to have 4 all becuase they let Sean Rash roll a game over after he bowled 7 frames and wasnt going to make the show. And didnt Machuga win that event as well..."

also Jason didn't realize Amletto was a threat at the time.. so he's a big fan of duke barnes in Scroggy tomorrow.. kinda have to love the last day drama of the tour

I think Pete's withdrawal was legit. He was still very much in contention, but obviously in a lot of pain. So much so Tracy had to put away his bowling balls.

PDW trades a $5K paycheck for an $1800 paycheck to help his buddy?  And miss out on a chance to be the only 5-time US Open champion?  I wouldn't do that for my own mother.

So Pete and Mike are friends.  Ask the guys who have been in 15+ years how many other 15+ year guys they haven't roomed with.  Ask them how many they're not good friends with.

like I said Shelly, I am not saying Pete did it for Mike. I am just saying it's ironic that they were roommates and are friends...I wasn't aware of that fact until tonight. I'm not the one who said Pete did it for Mike..it was some of the guys on the PBA forums who mentioned it

I do believe Pete has integrity and did not fake the injury. He was close to making a run for the show.
