You get to see the best bowlers in the world playing completely out of their element.

I ENVY YOU! And wish I lived in CO so I could bowl it myself, heh.

Kenny, only prob I heard was that the TQR is bowled with "normal" equipment while the tournament is contested with plastic..

Don't know if I heard wrong, but that is what I have understood...

The TQR is being bowled with regular equipment because the PBA doesn't want to give out 500 plastic balls. They are only giving the exempt players and those who qualify the limited # of 50 anniversary plastic equipment.

Living in Denver, I'm pretty excited for this tournament.  Most fans around here seem disgruntled that they don't get to watch a "regular" event.  I think it'll be great, but am afraid there might be a handful of exempt bowlers skipping this event as it's sandwiched in between the Masters and Marathon event.

Thats because a Tiger Woods pitching wedge is almost 200 yards.

Are they allowed to modify the coverstock?  Like can they sand that thing until it rolls like it has the grab of cement?

it's my understanding that the plastic balls given to the players to use must remain in the paddock when they're not being used and they must stay in "box" condition in regards to the finish on the surface of the ball.

It is just another tournament, with a gimmick. It is still about ball reaction. The bowler that understands that first and best wins.I would not consider this out of the element at all. They are still throwing a round object at 10 objects 60 ft away.

I agree to an extent.  However, a significant challenge is going to be learning how plastic balls change the lane conditions over a 7 game block or match.  That first game out of the gate may be largely the same as at any other tournament.  He who gets lined up does well.  However, since plastic will break the lanes down significantly different than resin or particle, anticipating and following transition will be very, very different than what most are used to.

Especially the newer guys who grew up with resin and particle balls.  There are quite a few that probably have never used plastic for their strike ball except as a last resort.

PTQ regular or not, I would try that much harder to make it knowing it'd be a plastic tournament I'd be bowling for. WHy can't it be in FL, lol.

The power bowlers are going to dominate, for once we won't have to tame down the hit. Robert Smith or Couch is going to win this.

The PBA should have a plastic ball tournament next year, only call it the "Don McCune Open" and let the players soak the balls if they want.

"Jim" Pratt used a plastic American Eagle Dynothane ball on TV years ago, no thumb. But as numberone said, I can see WRW winning this regardless of revrate.

Duke and Williams will leave weak tens all day. You can be as accurate as you want with plastic but it's not going to carry for the weaker hands.
