plastic ball tournament
« on: February 10, 2009, 04:02:56 AM »
Who do you think will win?
Id rather cheer for someone else, but I think that Norm will win.

Also, what do you think the rules will be?
Will people be sanding the poo out of their pepsi balls?
Will they somehow drill them up different, and still bring 20 balls to the tourney?

i would think a guy with plenty amount of hand would do well, espically if the oil carries down.
my faves:
Mike
Maximum Bob
The Big Nasty Is hot right now
Chris Barnes(i think his roll would translate real well here)

Wildcard Pick: Bill O'neill

I think it would be cool if they gave everybody the same balls to work with.  The lane #1 xxxl would be cheap, and defeat the purpose.  Or maybe it wouldn't. Its hard to say.

This maybe WRW's tournament to lose. It's about accuracy and besides Norm, Walter is king of that.

I found this from PBA.com:

"Bowlers who advance from the TQR will be provided approved "plastic" equipment for the tournament proper"

This makes me happy.

Plus, they are bowling on the cheetah. I bet scores will still be high.

They're using a lower-volume version of the Cheetah.  Starting with the Round of 64, everyone will use identical, unmarked plastic bowling balls with pancake weight blocks, branded only by the PBA 50th Anniversary logo.  They'll initially be given two balls, but they can drill more throughout the tournament, and they are allowed to alter surfaces on the balls.

I think people who can get the ball down the lane with moderate revs will do well since their accuracy will shine compared to the power players.  People who are good at changing their release also will have good success.  Those who tend to get the ball into a heavy roll and like to play further out (WRW, Duke) will probably be around, even if they hang a couple corner pins.  Also, I just have a hunch someone like Steve Jaros will have a good look at the pocket.

I'm gonna go way out on a limb and say look out for Jack Jurek.  He's got a good combination of speed, rotation and accuracy, that he could be dangerous.

But then again, look out for Wes...like Jeff Carter said, when he starts striking, he doesn't stop until they turn the lights out on him.

it doesn't take a massive amount of hand to get a plastic ball to turn, you cant fluff it, but you don't have to crank it either

down and in guys are going to dominate, but be prepared for a 10 pin fest

It's not all about revs. In fact I would take WRW or Duke easy in this one.

I could see PDW holding his own at this with his ability to kill the speed combined with accuracy.
