plastic ball tournament
« on: February 10, 2009, 04:02:56 AM »
Who do you think will win?
Id rather cheer for someone else, but I think that Norm will win.

Also, what do you think the rules will be?
Will people be sanding the poo out of their pepsi balls?
Will they somehow drill them up different, and still bring 20 balls to the tourney?

Did anybody notice in the story on this tournament, they mentioned these aren't regular plastic balls, they all have a pancake weight block.  Should give them a better reaction than just plastic.  Also, they won't be able to take them from the center, but they will be able to drill extras up and work with different layouts, etc...

From what Jeff Carter told me, all the balls were made by ebonite, each player gets three of them and they cant leave the center!!!

I am inclined to think it won't be that incredibly different than any other week, the scores will be lower and the players won't be covering as much lane but I don't think it will effect them all as much as you would think. I may be proved wrong but the pros are too good to have equipment hold them back, they will adapt and score.

All "regular" plastic balls have a pancake weight block.

If the balls didn't have at least a pancake core, after taking weight out for holes, the balls would wobble.  Every ball has a core.  Even house balls.  Its for balance purposes only.

i had a tournament last year where its full plastic only....
on that day itself its pure carry down with no back end and all i did was go back to basics and bowled down between 13-17board straight,at times bowl diagonal from 10 to pocket
kinda boring as it requires a lot of accuracy and skills to try to get the ball into the pocket with all the harsh carry down.
but it was fun and worth the effort cos i found out how straight i can be when it requires me to do it.

I feel Norm Duke or WRW will win the plastic ball tourney.  Accuracy will prevail.

Everyone on tour is accurate.  Who can produce the strongest end over end roll in order to get plastic to carry well over the course of a long time will win.  Most likely someone with the ability to change tilt and rotation on a dime.  I'd go with Mika, Kent, or Loschetter.

I have never seen a house ball that had a core.  Maybe newer ones do but all the older ones i have seen and cracked open were full of a solid dense foam type material.

I'm going with lefties ruling the day here...less carry down on the whole.  Someone like PBIII or PA will win.
