alright, lets hear it. Who is the frontrunner entering the TOC?
Duke - 3 titles, high average, but an injury plagued season.
PDW - 2 titles (one being a major) and a few other solid finishes
Malott - 1 title, but the leader in telecasts and points
Kent - 2 major titles + 1 other telecast, but with a big midseason drought
PA - 2 titles, 4 telecasts and a miraculous second half.

What about Jason Couch?

No, my name is not Prince and I'm not particularly funky.

Yea PDW is long overdue for Player of the Year...he's gotta be the favorite.

Kent has 2 majors. That's going to be tough to beat.

3 holes of fun!!

Unless Pete takes the TOC I can't see him taking POY

If PDW even makes the semifinals next week, I predict he'll take the POY. Other than that Kent would be the other favorite seeing as everyone now knows, he has two majors.

Duke is so the man. But it really going to come down to how everyone one does at the TOC.

When Chuck Norris sends in his taxes, he sends blank forms and includes only a picture of himself, crouched and ready to attack. Chuck Norris has not had to pay taxes ever.
-
I believe PDW will finally prevail and get POY. He just needs to have a good showing next week at the TOC. Now, if Kent or Duke were to win next week, then it might get interesting.

i didn't mention couch because i saw PA with the same credentials (2 titles + a couple more telecasts) but also better finishes in majors, plus the fact that couch has done nothing outside the 2 month stretch after xmas.
At this point i agree with all of you that its tough to call.
i'd give it to big Wes myself. Stats do not lie. And its not like he has bowled bad on tv either. He has been solid on every pattern, every tournament. I feel that some guys have gone through hot stretches or hit a couple patterns, but nobody has been as strong as Malott through thick and thin all season long

if one of the following guys wins the TOC they've got a shot at POY:
Wes(7 SHOWS,2 titles,1 major,POINTS CHAMP)
PDW(5 shows,3 TITLES,2 MAJORS)
Duke(4 shows,4 TITLES,1 major,)
Kent(4 shows,3 MAJORS)
Barnes(6 SHOWS,2 titles,1 major)
Sean Rash(3 shows,3 TITLES,1 major,PERFECT TV RECORD)
Minus the ToC, all of those guys have a shot anyway. If one of them wins the ToC, it'd be hard not to vote for them, especially if it were Duke, PDW, or Kent. Hell, if Fresh wins the ToC, he'd have to admit to killing puppies not to win PoY.

Go Duke or PDW

Kent is definately the front runner. 2 Majors in one year doesn't happen very often. Right now Kent is at the top of the list followed by Duke, Weber and Malott.
-
I think that they are chasing Doug Kent right now, but if he doesn't do well and someone else steps up ( Like Duke, PDW, Sean Rash and ecspecially Big Wes) they they for sure deserve it.
But if it turns out to be a lefty show, tyhen maybe Couch or PA have a chance.
I would like to see Pete get his
-
Doug Kent.

If it is not Duke, then it should be Doug Kent. But hasn't Norm won every telecast that he's made? I think that speaks volumes.
-
Kent because of the 2 majors. Duke's 3 titles look good also, but just not as impressive as Kent. Remember that Jaros got the shaft a couple years back when he won 4 (an outstanding accomplishment) and did not win POY. Of course Tommy was just as deserving. I think any of the other guys would have to win the TOC to have a chance.

When, not if, PDW wins the TOC, he will FINALLY be PBA PLAYER of the YEAR!!!!
He should have been in 88 or 89, Holman was voted POY, and he didn't even win a title that season!!!

How is POY voted anyways?
The reason I ask, is that sometimes POY is not always about how well you do, but what kind of sportsman you are.

Jaros won three titles in 03-04 but had an otherwise modest year. Mika won PoY, and was at or close to the top in points, had two titles, including a 300/800 on TV. Made the show in two majors, was the average leader. He was quite dominating. TJ was up against Patrick Allen the next year, four titles to three, while one of PA's was a major. I believe PA was tops in points, and had the second largest single season earnings ever. It was a tossup, admittedly, but you can't say that TJ got the shaft by losing to PA.

I'd say Kent, but if any of the other guys you mentioned wins the TOC, I think that will change.

Mine's not always that much better (ask me about viscous operators and deformation tensors), but I like Steve Jaros, he's one of my favorite bowlers.

I honestly think it depends on next week's TOC... that's how close it is. Right now I see Duke as the front-runner.
Yeah I think we'll know after next week. Now you can't really rule out any of these guys.
