as of this moment there are three(3)likely candidates for 2003-2004 pba player of the year:

1) patrick healey, jr.------2 titles including the tournament of champions.

2) walter ray williams, jr.-----2 titles including the abc masters. he also won the first tournament of the year( the dream bowl )although it doesn't count as a pba title( this year ).

3) mika koivuniemi-----2 titles including a 300 game on national tv.

There's still some tournaments left to play. Don't count out Brad Angelo yet. Tons of points and $$ so far. I suspect his first title will be coming shortly, and might just be followed by another before the season ends. Hard to bet against Walter Ray though. You gotta believe he's got another win or two coming. Weber - Barnes - Healey - all still in the hunt. It's gonna be a close one this year unless someone really busts loose.

Good point, Randy.  All Angelo needs is two titles, and he'll be pretty strong in the running.  However, Mika has the decided advantage.  Two titles, the most tv appearances of anyone this year, 2 2nd place finishes and a low of 3rd, and of course the 300.  He hasn't lost the first match on tv yet this year.  Angelo has three appearances, that's a good number if he gets on another few and wins them, but I really think that he'll need a title more than Mika to get it done.  I think Healey and Walter would both have to WIN another one, seeing as how they've both only been on a couple shows.  Weber needs to win another title or two and make them strong showings.

Another point for Angelo.  How impressive is it that he's only made 3 shows, has a high of 2nd in his career, achieved just last week, and after this week, he WILL be leading in points AGAIN.  Look at Tommy Jones too.  He hasn't made a show yet this year (has he?), and he's 3rd in points.
