Title: Power players vs. Accuracy (straighter) with Plastic
Post by: jstrzel on February 22, 2009, 02:36:00 AM: Does this tourney show that the reactive balls help the straighter players more than the power players?

I think so, and I am a straight shooter. Look at the leaders: Robert Smith, Belmonte, Weber, Fagan.

I think we should have more tourney's that limit the technology of the balls.

Post by: Dan Belcher on February 22, 2009, 12:48:49 PM: Duke could have gotten a decent finish in this tournament (he CAN slow hook it with a lot of axis rotation somewhat like PDW when he wants to), though he probably would not have won. However, Duke also does not like bowling many consecutive weeks. He actually said something about that recently, he only likes to bowl one or two tournaments in a row if he can help it to cut down on mental fatigue. Also, throwing a plastic ball requires a different release than throwing a reactive ball, and a few bowlers were concerned about getting into bad habits by having to throw the ball so differently for just one tournament.

Yeah on the right conditions the plastic ball has its advantages because you can just relax, rev it up, and not worry.

Duke can score well anywhere, but my point is the power players are hurt by the reactive balls. I was surprised to hear Barnes say he was using as much power in his release in about 15 years.

You are right about the bad habits, they might be hooking too much next week.
