Alright guys, I've read a few threads on this but I'm interested in a couple more things, for those of you who have done these. It's a 9 Pin-No Tap, fair enough. Pinassasin and myself will be making the trek from Southeastern Mass out to Norwich, CT with a another buddy of ours come March.

Basically, whats the atmosphere like? Laid back? I know it's there to have fun, but are some people dead serious about it? Do any of the amateurs actually dress like real bowlers, or just go out in t-shirt? I mean I plan on wearing my mock with my name on the back, but I'm wondering if I will get weird looks from people just kickin' around. Which, hell, that's fine, I'm just wondering. I'd assume it would be a widespread age group as well.

And the GoRVing Match Play Championship, all rounds of competition, the left lane will be dressed with Chameleon and the right lane will be dressed with Cheetah. But do you bowl on the PBA patterns at the Pro-Am? If we do, this will make for one fun series.

And lastly, we have two other people tagging along for the trip, and want to check it out to watch. Anyone know the price for this? I mean it is only a Pro-Am, so I don't know and can't find it on the PBA site.

At both Reno and Vegas there was no charge for spectators. Fountain gave a free admittance for a guest to each participant. A wrist bad was given if asked for to be used by the spectator. I honestly don't know if they even looked for them.

As for dress, it is whatever you want. Some do wear bowling shirts with their name on it, but not many. The atmosphere is very laid back. Many are seeking out the pros for autographs, and it can get a bit chaotic at some of the Pro Ams. Most of the pros are very friendly and will talk bowling, golf, or whatever. A friend had a great conversation about hockey a few years back with one of our pros.

This is the first year in a while I won't be making it to any of the Pro Ams, money is too tight right now and this is when they make their West Coast swing.

There shouldn't be a charge for pro-am spectators.

And MOST pro ams are on the house condition. This allows the pros to really show off!

Of course, the house condition plays a tad bit different, since it's had the pba condition(s) leading up to the pro am.

You might want to see how often they're going to oil between squads. Sometimes the later squads can get mighty toasty.

At US Open Pro Am at Carolier Lanes they charge 5$ for spectators during the Pro Am.

I bowled the last 2 pro ams in Balt and the one this year was on Shark, 2 years ago was on the house pattern.

Atmosphere was very laid back. Pros were engaging and easy to talk to.

I don't think I'm going to bowl. I think I'll watch - it'll be more fun...

Last year cost an arm and a leg, and frankly, I don't feel like I got much for my $$. I had a blast, but $175 for 24 frames was a little steep...
All of us on the team bowled poorly - I can't blame anyone for that.
My beef is with the practice - they put out the PBA shot for the Calcutta, and gave us 5 minutes - with 5 man teams. One ball per lane doesn't get it for me... I'm too old. I didn't loosen up until about the 5th baker game - of 12.

Of course, I'll have my equipment with me, so if anyone NEEDS a bowler and is willing to pay for it, I'll bowl...

The ones that I have bowled in here in Vegas have been very laid back. I
don't think that you have much chance of winning. On my pair one year an
amateur bowled 316 and 324 with handicap. I had 0 handicap. How can it be
fair when you have no chance to win? It was fun though--Norm Duke was hil-
arious. Have not bowled in one since.

Yeah I know what you mean. It's never "cheap" to bowl so you want to go in feeling like you at least have a chance. And I agree. When you only have 2 frames a game, you don't want to take 3+ games to get loose. Looks like I am going to bowl but the team is still looking for a 183 unless we do some juggling.

I'm bowling the pro-am in Reno this weekend. Send me a message and I'll let you know what it is like. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it(for some of the same reasons you stated) but I figured what the heck. I didn't get the exempt package with the ball.. just paid the $99 dollars for the entry fee. 1st place is only $750 based on 200 entries. that isn't much for the $20,000 they are taking in.. but oh well. I guess I get a $25 gas card too. I'm not that big on getting pics or autographs with any pros but it would be cool if I get someone that I know on my pair. It might be cool to see what advice they have or how they approach the pattern from an on the lane perspective.

here is the link to the pro-am entry.. doesn't say anything about entry to to watch the pro-am. I know the reno one is free to spectators.. but the Sunday ESPN Finals is free on a first come first serve basis also..
the Norwich finals are not free.. so who knows about the pro-am.
