R.I.P. PBA - You Have Become A Complete Joke
« on: December 03, 2008, 04:48:12 AM »
Ok, I have had about enough of the PBA this season.  It is clearly going completely the wrong way in everyway.  Before flaming me and saying FIGJAM and whatever or 'stop watching then' or 'stfu moron' or 'you suck', read on because I know everyone with any type of brain or history of bowling has the same feelings.

Where to begin?  So many complaints and BS!!!

1. Ok Denny dropped them and they got Lumber Liquidators to sponsor them.  (this is the least of their problems LOL)

2. They grant Jason Belmonte a 2 tournament exemption from the Commissioner.  Just ask the other bowlers on tour and in TQR's how they feel to understand this issue.  International reasons my azz!

3. Ultimate Scoring championship.  Total disaster.  Nothing was ultimate on the telecast and only set back bowling overall in the public eye.  Nice going PBA planners!

4. Not only that, they release the results on PBA.com and then expect people to watch the following Sunday a taped show where every interested bowling fan already knows what happens?

5. Exempt Tour

6. Stupid 5 Christmas Tree Oil Patterns that are all derivatives of the Christmas Tree Pattern

7. Stupid fines for balking!

and now (drum-roll) as it only gets worse!!>......

8. Robert Mushtare, the self-proclaimed king of 900 series!  He gets a free ride to this week's tournament and embarrasses himself and the PBA with a dazzling 179 average and only 1 200 game!  For someone that bowls 900's in his sleep, he can only manage 1 on the Tour's EASIEST PATTERN.  Yeah I SAID EASY because it is nothing more than a harder THS.  And Easy in that it isn't hard to bowl 200.  Yet Mr. 900 can only bowl 1 200 game out of 7 tries.

157     2
183     3
169     4
182     5
148     6
194     7
220
Total
1253

Nice going PBA!  Good to hype him up.  It is like hyping up Lebron from HS only to see he can't even dunk on an NBA rim.

PBA you are running out of lives.  Let's only hope you can somehow show a legit Plastic Ball Tournament later this season like you all say you are.

My name is Necromancer and that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I'm going to ignore the rest of your post because you're just saying the same idiotic stuff you always do, but I need to address one point:

Why do people assume the Cheetah pattern is easy?  Since they tightened it up recently, it's one of the toughest PBA patterns!  You can't just throw it to the gutter and watch it hook back to the pocket like you could a few years ago.

Well there are just 5 patterns (considering the animal ones only).  Which one you say is easier than the Cheetah?  I bowled on the Cheetah last week for a local tournament and struck out after opening the first 2 frames and lost to a 268 game.

I'd say the Viper, Chameleon, Scorpion, and Shark are all easier than the Cheetah these days!  Almost everyone I bowled with in my PBA Experience league agreed that the Cheetah was completely different this season than last and was much tougher than the other shots.  Miss right one board, it would just hang and never recover.  Miss left one board, through the face.  You couldn't move in with your feet or it'd make the over/under even more prevalent.  If it was just me, I could say it's just that I didn't match up with it, but I have had four or five people from the same league say the same exact thing.

Where you play at?  I used my weakest ball (Recharge) and basically rolled up right up the 5 board and it hit flush every time.  I definitely don't swing on it because the breakpoint produces way too sharp of an angle.  I left the 6-7-9 split 3 times in four frames one game trying that out.

Maybe so then.  I didn't know the PBA changes their patterns.  Even more reason to complain LOL .

What they do to it?  Isn't it still dry near the gutter and oiled to like 36 feet or something?

The ONLY look I had was directly up the 4 board with the strongest ball in my bag.  (And believe me, I tried many different lines, all the way from the 1st board to the 10 board!  For example, when I tried throwing straight up 3, I left a washout or the bucket because the ball just never turned the corner)  The house I bowled in for that league has newer synthetics, and they just plain don't hook much since they don't have much friction worn into them yet.  Combine that with the short but very heavy volume of oil and it meant you had to use strong gear to get the ball to pick up a good roll.  I tried throwing weaker gear -- it skated through the oil too much and was uncontrollable off the friction.

They change their patterns CONSTANTLY.  Go read Jeff Carter's blog and see where he complains about how the graphs of the shot look different every single day, and they changed the volume of oil every single day on the house shot tournament.  But then again, that's why nobody else (except you) complains about them using the same oil patterns.  Because they aren't the same!  They play different every time they're used, especially when you consider that the same pattern would play differently in a different house, or even on a different end of the same house.

In the past couple years, they have slowly taken away the friction spot next to the gutter on the Cheetah.  It USED to be a nice little area where you could just place it anywhere from the 1 to the 3 board and it'd hook.  Now that spot has much more oil on it.  Plus they lengthened it from 35 to 36 feet.

Yeah I know what you mean.  On the PBA patterns I find that I have to slow the ball down a lot.  Not sure how fast you bowl, but for me I usually drop to around 14-15 mph.  Basically I try to release it as slow as possible.  It gets awkward since I am a cranker, but it usually works.  When all else fails I stand in the middle and throw directly to the pocket hehe.

I tried using the majority of my arsenal, but the stronger balls hooked brooklyn always so I used a weaker ball.  The Recharge is drilled with pin directly over finger tips to go long and break late.

I'm usually in the 17mph range according to the Qubica system, so probably about 18-19 off the hand.  I actually could keep it in that range on the other shots.  For reference, I averaged right around 190 on all the named patterns, plus the 50 foot ToC pattern and the PBA World Championships pattern.  I only averaged about 170 on the Cheetah.  The year before, the Cheetah was by far my best pattern, and I averaged around 200 on it.  So things definately weren't the same this time around!

Looking at the TQR scores, I'd find it hard to believe that the pattern they played on is anything similar to what you saw Necro.  The so called "easy" pattern can be made extrememly difficult depending on lane surface and any tweaks the PBA makes.  If I'm not mistaken, the PBA usually messes with the patterns a bit anyway depending on the house.  Look at the TQR scores, awfully low for an "easy" pattern.

Where did you see that Mushy got a free ride this week?  There is no mention of any free entry in the article about him on the PBA website.

I wish I could bowl on either the ToC or US Open pattern every week.  Those separate those that know how to bowl from those that don't.  It will eliminate many of the phonies in my league at least.  Last week in my Wed THS league, they put a little more oil on the lane and all the guys were crying about how their ball didn't reach the pocket.  The 3 pin was getting hurt all night long hehe

I assumed it was free.  Either way, the fact that the PBA advertised him as a 900 guy not once, not twice, but 3 times is a complete joke.  It ruins the credibility of the PBA as an association and sport in general.  It is like saying someone ran a 100m sprint in under 8 seconds.  That is how out of reach bowling 900 3 times is.

but you are just like every other house hack that babbles about how good you are in PBA Experience league...
There is a shot clock violation...
Its been in place for years, if you are such the historian of the tour...
you would have known that...

I thought about bowling in the Baltimore Classic since it is close, but my average isn't to my satisfaction yet hehe.

I'm with you on everything besides 1,2,7 and 8. I think you miss the point on Mushtare. What a perfect way to point out to the non serious bowler (assuming they give a damn) that the league pattern they bowl on (assuming they have a clue) isn't in the same ballpark as the PBA patterns by having the guy with two perfect series embarrass himself. They can draw a clear line in the sand by saying the PBA is sport while the rest is recreation.
