Watched him bowl over the weekend at the Nationals. Still throws it great. One of the greatest physical games the tour has ever seen.

This man was touted as the next Dick Weber when he won the ABC Masters as an amateur. He was that good and his future on the PBA tour looked bright. It's a shame injuries took their toll on him both physically and mentally.

I was on Tour when he was a rookie and bowled the U.S. Open in AC when he hurt his shoulder. Gotta think he is the biggest "what if" in bowling history. From what I saw I think he would have been a consistent Player of the Year candidate and for sure a double digit title winner. Heckuva nice guy, too.

I bowled with Rick in a pro-am a while back and he was a great guy, him and Steve Wilson (who I also bowled with on the same occasion) were 2 of the nicest people I have ever met. Back when Rick first came out he had so much power it was stupid... because of injuries he had to tone down his game a lot, but has always been silky smooth and his release is amazing. I would also agree that he is one of the biggest "what if" cases of all time!

I agree, he was amazing, it is shame to think what might have been.
On that topic, Riggs, how close do you put Tim Mack to Rick Steelsmith in terms of that "what if" factor? Tim was a tremendous "amateur" player, especially internationally, but never quite found success on the PBA tour. Just curious.

Jorge300, i know you asked riggs for his opinion on Tim Mack vs. Rick Steelsmith but for what it's worth here's mine. Assuming they are both healthy and injury free players in their prime I would rate Rick Steelsmith a better player.

No issues with others responding....but that really isn't what I was asking. My question was who has the bigger "what if". Steelsmith was able to come back and make some TV shows and do ok on the tour after his injury. Mack hasn't been able to get back to where he was yet, getting closer I think, but still not the same. I only ask because I bowled with Tim in college and I know how good he used to be.....he could make those pins dance on command at times.
