Randy Peterson should know that what Osku Palermaa from Finland was using for the his spare shots was a Power Diesel and not a plastic ball. He used it once for a strike and never used it again. This was a very lucky dude.
What the rest of the group thinks of him as a commentator.
-
Dave Ryan was the one that made the spare ball comment. Randy's great, without him, it'd be pretty boring.

The weekly signature series, by Hamster, presenting a mini-series of quotes from Shrek!
"Oh I'll find those stairs, I whip they butt too. They won't know which way they going. Give me a step right here and now, I'll step all over it, kick it to the curb. I am the stair masta, I've masta'd the stairs."

Randy Peterson needs more cooperation from the producers of the program so that he has more time for when he wants to graphically show the merits or faults of a good or missed shot of any particular bowler. The director of the PBA program should give a shot of the bowler in how he grips the bowling ball in one frame and in the other his complete stance. Not the close up of his face. These are not portraits of faces. It is a focus of how the bowler executes. Randy needs more help and the program will be more enjoyable. I am recording the programs in my replay and then to dvd's so I can continue learning from the PBA best.

If the kid had used and thrown the Power Diesel straight with his speed. He could have gotten more strikes.
quote:
I like randy but also noticed that slip up.
The power diesel is my heavy oil ball.
This kid threw it straighter then a nail.

Lol, once again, Dave was the one that made the comment about the plastic ball!!!

I think Randy's great, much better than Voss or Holman. I cringe whenever it looks like Randy might make the show as a bowler, which means we'll get Voss as the commentator.
Randy's record at prognostication is even worse than sponsor24 on pba.com. Talk about the kiss of death!

If Dave made the comment. He should go to a Pro Shop and start learning whats what. How about having BT as commentator instead of Dave.
Now seriously. They should have a knowledge coach together with Randy Peterson. Who will you guys pick?
-
Man, if Rick Benoit wasn't busy with a Brunswick guy being on the show every week, I'd put him up there. The guy is smart as hell, but he's fun to listen to also.

Randy does a great job. Everyone is going to make a mistake every now and then...

Am I the only one who thinks Randy has broadcasting aspirations beyond bowling? He seems to go out of his way to display his knowledge of other sports, particularly football and golf. Almost sounds like he's auditioning sometimes...
BTW, it's Pedersen, not Peterson.

interesting point i've never really noticed, seadrive . . .
i think he's a GREAT announcer, probably better than any golfer i can think of up in the booth for pga events.
i really like the fact that he's out there bowling every week, so he really knows what the shot is, and call tell when there's a bad shot. (did i just say "badshot"?!?!?!?!?
)

That which does not kill me makes me stronger . . .

Maybe I'm older than everyone here but I remember a time when the announcers actually commented on how GREAT these bowlers really are - Nelson Burton had probably 10% of the life that Peterson brings but rarely would I hear him say that the rail, bucket or 4-pin washes were DIFFICULT spares. This is what I hear every week now.
Come on!! These guys are good!! Where was everyone when Earl Anthony made the 4-6 on TV finals WITHOUT bouncing a pin out of the back wall???????????
-
I hope they can get somebody that can disect the styles of each bowler and give an insight opinion of why they do this and that. Or not to do. Why this works and this does not. Show more flashbacks of special shots made during past tournaments.
or bowling trick shots.

Its only a 1 and half hour show. They cant show the matches plus other additional things for viewers. Does anyone remember the "pros approach" from the first year of the "new pba"? That was extremely helpful and I still watch them since I recorded them. They talked about everything arsenal set ups, opening up the lane, speed control etc you name it. It has since been replaced. With the Dexter "Rock n Roll and something else I cant remember.

northface28,
I am new in this sport and if that was done in the past I wish they can do it today.

I personally think they need to turn Randy loose. Give him more time commenting on the players and the players games and not just on the action. He is a great on air personality. He has that rare quality of being overly enthusiastic without sounding stupid. I like Brian Voss as a bowler but he doesn't have the personality of Randy. He needs to be the lead guy not the color guy more.
-
I like Randy! Great bowler too!
This guy Dave Ryan seems to really enjoy it and is trying to learn all the time!
Sounds according to Randy like he was quite an athlete himself.
I think the show is really good!
Also I liked one of the guys that tried out with Randy two years ago and
Ron??? Thinning hair. He was really good but he didn't make the cut!
REgards,
Luckylefty
PS I could easily deal with a lot more Leslie Gudal also. Like maybe between every shot! I know, I know, she's married and having a baby!
-
Leftside,
One thing I learned is not to use his style in our oil patterns conditions. We learn from other peoples mistakes. All I said that he had a better chance of winning with his straight ball, laser beam throw, which was more accurate and stronger. In bowling I have learned that you need to work from different angles or moves so you can deal with the different conditions. I never try to slam anybodys style only their mental approach to not having a plan to win. They interview him and ask him how are you going to stay focus. He answer, "I don,t know."
By the way this has not been the first time I see this style. I have seen in my area about 2 guys that bowl the same way in tournaments.
quote:
Borincano,
Stop slamming bowlers who have styles different than yours. Hopefully someday you will learn.
All,
I think that Randy is great and has to be a very patient man to put up with Dave Ryan. The man really needs to learn more about bowling. Anyone catch the 13th arrow comment?
Anyway Randy is just what the show needs, spunk, knowledge, and enjoyable to listen to.

"knack for statin the obvious"

That is a wonderful idea, but it would never sell!
I bet they could get 5 minutes in the middle of the telecast though.
REgards,
Lucklefty
PS Now if Lesley Gudal presented that, maybe 1/2 hour is a little short!
