I've been reading the PBA's FAQ and I see that you can't cash more than twice a season as a non-member, but does the rule apply that if you win a regional, you must get your PBA card? I can't seem to find a clear yes or no on the site.

Q: Do I have to join if I cash in a tournament?
A: PBA Tour Non-members may cash in an unlimited number of PBA Tour qualifying rounds but may only advance once per season. The U.S. Open and USBC Masters do not count as a cash on tour. PBA Regional Tour Non-members are allowed to cash twice during the calendar year without having to become a PBA member. If a player cashes twice and chooses to bowl again during the season he will be required to join if he cashes again and accepts the prize money. The Member/Non-Member Doubles event in each region does not count toward the two cash rule. PBA Senior Tour Non-members are allowed to cash once during the season (excluding the Senior U.S. Open and USBC Senior Masters) without having to become a PBA member. If a player cashes once and chooses to bowl again during the season he will be required to join if he cashes again and accepts the prize money.

Yeah, I saw that, but I know if you win on the PBA tour, you have to join, even if it's your first cashing, just curious to know if this is in effect for regionals.

I think if there was a difference between cashing in a regional event or winning one they would have clarified. I'm just going with what I've read, I'm sure there are more qualified people to answer your question.

A cash is a cash, no matter if its a win or last cash. You are allowed to cash twice, then you have to join before you bowl again during that season. This does not count the member/non-member doubles events

Trust me, I'm not having to make that decision. I'm just going to be bowling college this year, but I'm also going to go to some regionals and PBA tour stops this year and was just wondering what my options were, and trying to keep an eye out on what's happening.

Also, in the Southwest Region, we have a Non-Champions Regional, that any PBA Champions are not allowed to bowl in, the cash rule does not count for this tournament. Same if your region has one.

Another question.
My Punisher has some hairline cracks going on around the fingers, one extends about 3 inches around the fingers like this--> (oo
Question is, if the ball is not split, nor does it have any pieces of the ball missing, just hairline cracks, will they allow the ball to be thrown, or is it more of a ball by ball basis?

Well, I guess that question is out now since the Punisher is toast.
Next question. On the site, it says that payment will be processed 6 days in advance of the tournament. When, and how, do I find out:
a) If I am for sure in the regional
b) Squad I bowl in

I think you could ask any of these questions to riggs on BR. He is a regular on the Midwest Region Rick. He'll fill you in.

No....you don't have to join. It counts as a cash and you don't get credit for a title. No banner...
But you don't have to join.

First of all good luck.
To see if your in.
Just check the roster on www.pba.com.
If no roster list is posted try getting a hold of Rich Weber.
I'm sure his contact info is also posted in the PBA website.
Also i'd double check your equipment woth your proshop guy to make sure it all weighs up legal.
Can't remember if PBA weight/ball restrictions are that much different from USBC specs.

If it doesn't have RG stamped on it.
Just leave it in the car or at home.

Actually got an appointment to do that tomorrow afternoon.

Just checked the PBA site, and I'm in, bowling A squad. It only looks like there's a total of 41 sign-ups for the regional, and one squad.

Sounds like you encountered Chad before.

Now if Kingpin was bowling i'd put him as the favorie.
Seems to be having a good year out there so far.

hey bass thanks for the vote there but im not gonna bowl the shark pattern is not one of my favorites. it is not lefty friendly. ill be back in action in waterloo. and hoppe is right if chad is not having a good day look out.
-
Kingpin,
I consider Chad a friend of mine and he can still get on my nerves.
Not as bad as Rain Delay Miller used to.
Hate to say it but maybe attack the pattern as a non lefty for once.
Move in and swing it like the stinking windups.
My problem was I play like a righty but throw it from the wrong side.
Curoius but is this a points tournament?
If so you'd be gaining on the guys ahead of you that are prior champions.
Better your position for the RPI.

bass, i do not think points are awarded here im not sure this tournament counts toward anything but money. i cant be like stinking windup when i throw it like traber dale

True very true.
I was thinking you had more hand than that.
LOL
But Traber Dale has carved out a nice career with his style,

So, practice was today, and I wrote some notes on a lot of the lanes. Practice went from 3-5. A sweeper followed practice. 10 people entered. I got up there, shoot 181, 268, (ball change in the 3rd frame after 9/ 9/ and ran the next 8, 4 pin) 235, 236, (front 6, open in the 10th with a 1-2-10) 220 for an 1140. Won the sweeper by over 40 pins. It was a great time. Just a fun day overall. I dunno what else to say about it. Great confidence boost.

So, today was night & day compared to yesterday. The shot I had yesterday was completely gone.
Overall, I wound up -83 for the tournament. Every lane played different for me.
Game 1:
X 9/ X X 9/ X X 7s- X 9/6 - 196
Game 2:
9/ X 81 8/ 9/ X 9/ 8/ 8/ X X X - 193
Game 3: (ouch)
X 81 9- 6/ 9/ 8/ 9/ X 81 9/8 - 159
(only single pin missed all day, 2 pin, spare ball backed up going crosslane at it, weird)
Game 4:
X 9/ 63 X X X 8s/ X X 6/ X - 209
Game 5:
9/ 7/ 7/ 7s2 8- X 7/ 7/ X X X X - 185
Game 6: (here's where it got ugly)
9/ 62 X 63 7/ 9/ 72 62 9/ -/6 - 131
Game 7:
9/ 8/ 9/ X X X X X X 8s1 (4-9, ouch!) - 233
Game 8:
X 8/ X X 9/ 8/ 9/ 6/ 9/ X X X - 211
Overall - -83 1513
Strike % - 42%
Spare % - 73% overall
Spare % w/o splits - 77%
Split % - 25%
Top 16 wound up like this:
1. Chad Mass (good call Bass) - 1872 - 234 Avg
2. James Pugh - 1822 - 227 Avg
3. Christopher Powell - 1779 - 222 Avg
4. Louis Franzetti - 1766 - 220 Avg
5. Shea Bittenbender
6. Brian Burkhardt
7. Jeremy Hunt
8. Darin Galbraith
9. Timothy Behrendt
10. Jason Poli
11. Nick Plouff
12. Thomas Patton Jr.
13. Mark London
14. Larry Larsen
15. Nick Weber
16. Chris Wade
I have to say though, some of the attitudes sure needed a spot check there. Heard the f bomb dropped a ton (especially by 3 of the top 16 players that I was bowling by) along with a towel slammed into the scoring counsel. The Double Jump wound up being a lot easier than I thought it would be. It was also cool getting to bowl with a PBA patch on my shirt. I also found out that junior bowlers can bowl a PBA event, and any money they receive is now put into their SMART fund account.
After all is said and done, I know I could have scored better, but I feel I was executing every shot to the best of my ability, in which I have no regrets for.

hey bass your prediction is looking pretty good right now. Maas is the leader. Scores look a little higher than i thought they would be. Hey BeefSTl i think they are always different from Fri practice to Sat tournament time. I have yet to see one that is even close. That is why i dont really practice on Fri. Gives me a sence of hope that is destroyed on sat. lol At least you won the sweeper on fri. Hope that paid for your weekend.
just my opinion

After my 1st year out there I quit going to the practice sessions.
Jace P. and myself would go find a center close to his place to practice.
Then we'd roadtrip down on saturday mornings.
Got to sleep in a bed that was comfortable before the tournament.
Wouldn't get any preconcevived notions on the pattern.

beef stl, glad you enjoyed the tournament. don't let the jack***** who have the attitudes and do all the cussing get you down. i notice this at every tournament. try to look and act like a professional.
-
I still like to go to the practice sessions. As I have gotten fat, the approaches are more of an issue. I like to get used to the surroundings and the approaches.
The more the pattern is run, the lanes lose their "memory" from the house shot, the pattern plays more true. In the SW, I think he tweaks the machine if there is too much striking on Friday. Also, nobody throws spare shots in the practice session, so the lanes break down differently.
I think the practice session still has value, you just have to know they will be a little different on Saturday, specially if you bowl B Squad. BTW, the lane man in the MW Region, Bob, I think? He does an excellent job, they have really been pretty close on Saturday to the practice session in the tournaments in your region that I have bowled and the Tour Trials.
Still BeefSTL, not a bad showing. There are bad temper guys in every region. Don't be afraid of them or back down from them. Good luck next tournament.
