I am going to bowl some regionals this summer and have seen a few of them list the pattern as being a special pattern. Is there a tendency for these to be of certain characteristics or is it just something that each of these particular tournaments will decide to run?

The pattern for the event has not been selected yet.

Special means a non-Animal Pattern. In other words -- World Championship, Dick Weber, Earl Anthony, U.S. Open, etc.

No. if you look ahead at the regional schedule, especially in my region (East), none of the regionals have a pattern listed, only "special".

Yup, usually they'll say "special" if the pattern hasn't been decided yet...if it really is a non-animal pattern, they'll be sure to say so, as in the MW Region with Mokena using the Dick Weber pattern for example...

My bad. In Midwest we have animal patterns for some tournaments as far ahead as October!
