Regional winner turns down exemption

The PBA East Region awarded Ray Edwards (Middle Island, N.Y.) the Player of the Year award after he led the East Region Point Rankings although he turned down his exemption. Edwards won four titles and led the region with $17,952 in season earnings.

I heard from someone who bowls with him that he was going to turn it down. After reading about current exempt's situation, I'm not totally surpised. I know that Ray does have a well paying job. He didn't do too well with his last exemption in 2006-07 and lost it. I guess he could do better with regional's (almost $18k) and still not worry about losing his job because of the tour. He can make more money as a weekend warrior without all the large expenses of being on tour.

Being a secretary of a Men's League, there is no way I could convince my bowlers to pay more money to a governing body that just keeps taking their money and than giving even less for their money.
I don't see how league bowlers paying an extra $3.00 is going to save the PBA. I agree with the one poster that said it's up to the " PBA Brass" to come up with better marketing plans

pay per view?  pba would have to pay people to watch

if the pba can't stand on its own, then it should fall.  simple as that

Call me crazy or whatever but I thought it was a poor idea to allow regional point winners to be aloud on the exempt tour. Give more spots open to the tour trials and give more people a chance from other countries to join the tour. With the crummy payouts and making it difficult for someone from a foreign country to be on the tour we may never have another Amleto on tour again. Mika is last of it's kind.

You know this thing about us league bowlers bailing out the pros has been beat to death. I am opposed to it , league bowlers should not be mandated to pay the salaries of the pros. I say pros because someone else is going to come up with the bright idea to include the ladies in so before you know it we'll be paying more of our sanctioning fees for salaries then for getting sanctioned. While you're at it why not increase all the USBC officials salary they probably aren't making enough. I like the pros but if there isn't enough interest from sponsors to save it then it should go under like any other business, because that is exactly what it is

Shouldn't some our fee's be used for helping to promote and grow the sport of bowling?  I not saying that we need to pay exorbitant fees to USBC but the real question is do we as bowlers want to see the sport grow, if you don't then the answer is simple continue at "staus quo", if you do then the answer is not as simple.

I can't find the figures, but apparently our sanction fees are being used to revive the womens tour.  Shouldn't at least the same amount go to the men's tour.
