I will bowl regionals
« on: May 21, 2005, 03:56:30 PM »
So i give up to represent my country this year on the national team and i will be playing the pba regional tour on the south region
What advices could you give me to play there?
right now i am working on all my spares hard and straight...i am slowing down the speed a little and keeping my wrist more static to slow down the revs and win some more control, and make the relase quicker on my toe.
my arsenal right now is
storm vertigo-heavy
absolute inferno-medium
power groove dry/r-light

oldies
i have a cuda 2000 for medium too
and a hammer nasty nail for dry also
i dont know nothing about the pba reguionals patterns i know they are harder than ahouse shot but easiest than a sport shot
do u need to drill your arsenal different?

thought on spares:
1.if ya throw it straight ya don't have to throw it hard,..
2. great spare shooters leave easy spares.

Think about what you just read.

My name is Jonathan Hocsman
yeah i know u dont have to throw they hard...but YEAH straight
what do u mean about leave easy spares...its something about what chris barnes told me...that when u bowl on tour the "straighter is the greater"?
how can i practice this if i dont bowl on medium/hard conditions?
of course that i know to play straight but sometimes the lanes ask me to do something else and use more boards...but i know on tour you almost dont need to do this (except chetah patter "E")
am i right?

Leaving easy spares means avoiding splits. The only way to do this is to play with what the lanes give you and keep the ball in the pocket.

stanski hit the nail on the head about what I meant...

great bowlers learn to keep the ball in play, even on the toughest of shots.
I think on the Regional Tour, all the entrants can throw strikes,..but the guy(s) at the top are the ones who avoid the opens..

WRW,Barnes,Duke are all considered great spare shooters, not because they can pick up tough spares, their spare conversion rates are so high because they have learned how to play the lanes,..and avoid errant shots.

I've seen it over and over,..a bowler has a great look at the pocket but leaves a couple of 10s or 4s,..they immediatly change balls,..and either wash-out or 4-6...To me bowling in competition is not how many 260+ games you can bowl,..but how many 160 games you can avoid...
