Dave Ryan - count the mistakes

Its amazing how poor this man's commentating is.  That shot of the pin is NOT a bird's eye view.  It was a simple close-up.  You can count the mistakes and dumb comments on 2 hands.

It's called a mute button.  Or do they not have those in your neck of the woods.

A couple friends and I sat in the bowling center today watching the telecast on the projection TV's.  The center decided not to feed the sound with the telecast.  We were able to sit back and create our own commentary about the players and their shots.  We didn't need Mr. Ryan, nor do you.

Use your mute button (assuming you have a television that is capable of it), or otherwise shut up.  These Ryan-bashing sessions are getting old.

I think you'd probably be less apt to bash if you had to commentate about something you dont know anything about.  Like someone who has never played chess, if they made you commentate a chess match and quickly say all the player's movements (like rook b5 to d7), or if they made you commentate a paintball match and commentate on the various hoppers and markers, etc.

Did anyone notice he didn't say his patented "60 Feet To Success" during the telecast?

From an outsiders perspective, I think the reason that Ryan is receiving so much criticism is that any good journalist/commentator/reporter should do sufficient research beforehand to ensure they minimise their mistakes. He has been doing the job long enough, and each week he is sat next to someone who knows more than enough about the game, so the fact is there is no reason for him to still be making such blatent errors as the "Bowlers not wanting to slide" and the like. Maybe the question should be why has no one stepped in to help educate him further?

You should be just thankfull that there is a telecast for him to broadcast! For a while it looked like it was going to fold. I am sure the ladies of the PWBA if given a choice of them all doing what they are doing now or having Dave Ryan as a telecaster they would choose the latter.

For those who are letting Dave Ryan get away with his poor commentating on the reason that he is not familiar with the sport is ridiculous.  GET A GUY THAT KNOWS THE SPORT!!  It's the same thing with Dennis Miller doing Monday Night Football.  And for the guy saying that we are lucky to watch a telecast at all, well maybe if they had decent commentating then the show would be watched more.  I'm a huge fan of bowling and I've watched all the ABC telecasts back in the day and Dave Ryan makes me want to turn the tv off.

So maybe you're right.  I should use the mute button but thats a little ridiculous to have to resort to that.
