Or does he know(using that loosely) that with all the changes going on in bowling, he has an inside scoop that the tour may not be the tour anymore after this years WSOB?

I think its great having Barnes on the show...etc. He is so so much knowlegable than someone like Rob when it comes to the sport. Now on the other hand, Rob may have had a better personallity so forth. I enjoyed both dont get me wrong, but sometimes its nice to have one of the best players on tour talking and giving details that someone like Rob couldnt.
Im sure Rob, just moved for the money... Thats what its all about. No worries about the tour folding anytime soon. Because hell they just have got the WSOP event going and next year I think it will be bigger than ever. I see that even becoming very popular and helping the tour out in years to come...

I still say that I would love to see a "guest" along side Randy each week. One week, have Barnes. Next week, have Voss. Next week, have Parker.....etc. Instead of the monotony of having the same two guys every week, change it up a little bit.

Guys a broadcast team is made up of 2 parts:
- Color guy (Randy Peterson, Kirk Herbstreit, John Gruden, Joe Morgan, Tim McCarver, Johnny Miller)
- Play by Play (Rob Stone, Brent Musberger, Joe Buck, Vern Lundquist)
The Color guy's job is to give insight into what is going on. Generally someone who has been in the sport at the professional level, in most cases a coach of some kind. The Play by Play guy is not necessarily fluent in the game, but knows how to describe the action well, and give sound to what is going on. Putting Barnes in the booth with Peterson would be putting 2 color guys together. ESPN will bring another experienced play by play person in to call the action. Again the message boards will light up with people complaining about it not being someone who knows the game inside and out.

Rob Stone leaving ESPN's bowling coverage is a good thing as far as I am concerned. Almost anyone would be an improvement.

Stone is OK not great but OK. The factor that pushed Stone into the foreground was the hambone thing. I gotta think the PBA pushed him more towards that kind of broadcasting in that they want that more modern hoopla kind of thing for the shows for the casual viewer.
Think about casters like Joe Tesatore. Ugh. Go find Denny Schreiner and Mike Durbin.

While Rob Stone wasn't amazing, he was at least enthusiastic about it and was willing to learn. You can tell the progress he has made and how much he has learned listening to him now compared to when he started. The exact opposite of Dave Ryan before him. Ryan's voice was so plain and boring and he had no intentions of learning a thing. It was just another assignment for him that he could not care about.
It could be a lot worse than Rob Stone. Hopefully the Hambone things goes with him.

Rob Stone was entertaining as hell. Loved him. I don't think I could ever imagine a bowler turning to Schenkel, Burton Jr., Durbin, or Ryan (or all the other dullards that wanted to make bowling the old folks in church experience it used to be on television) like Weber did last show and giving them a "hambone" shout out. Hilarious and entertaining and what bowling needs more of.
Only person that I would like to see on the telecast regularly now with Pedersen is Marshall Holman. As Russell pointed out, the chemistry might not work due to having two "color" men on.

For me, Rob was kind of like a fungus. Kind of grew on me.
He truly did not know a 5-pin from a Greek Church and often verbalized his ignorance of the sport.
He has learned a lot, but he still had a long way to go.
Bowling does need his kind of enthusiasm though.
I do not like the new forum for the WSOB. It looks like two lanes set up in someone's basement.
I believe PBA should bring back the Stadium format. It makes it more exciting for the fans and brings a football like experence to the game. With the constant hum to roar of the crowds, not one will notice the crinkling of a water bottle. Leagues are bowled with lots of noise, and I believe that the PBA should also be bowled that way.
