I do, especially when the condition calls for it..  Stand 21 throw 20, in that area anyway..

Regardless, it didn't matter.  Assuming he had made it and all the other shots were the same as they ended up, Chris still would have won handily.

I do.  And when I miss it, which isn't too often, I'm usually off so much that it wouldn't matter what ball I throw.

I as well throw plastic straight at the bucket.  You go bowl on non house shots every week and tell me you feel more comfortable hooking at it.

I think the largest margin of error for most bowlers is the cherry, and not the sleeper pin.  I've seen more cherry the five than no show on the eight, like WRW had.  Plastic might just be a better plan on tour or use of a flatter shot with not so much extreme angle.

The point is, imagine how precise you have to be to make any spare when you are throwing with plastic at double wood. Throw in the fact that the person is usually throwing it faster, adding more deflection, and it just makes no sense to throw straight at it.

This seems like a never ending argument among people over whether to throw plastic at double wood or not. To me, it is just completely illogical to force yourself to be that accurate at a spare. And don't come at me with "wait till you get on tough conditions," i bowl in a sport league with changing conditions every week, i bowl in multiple centers, and I think that there is no way that you will ever have as much area to miss with plastic as you do with moving off of your hook line. I have seen too many people, thinking they were more accurate than they are, throw at the bucket with plastic and leave the back pin because they just barely miss or chop it with plastic (because you still can chop it). The same goes for the 3-6-9-10, you have to honestly be so blinded by whoever is coaching you to do this or are not using any common sense when thinking about throwing plastic at double wood. I don't care how accurate you are, you can be just as accurate with a hook ball, make an adjustment off your strike line, and have much more margin for error.

I don't see how you can think that strike line adjustments are a good idea when you actually bowl on sport conditions.  With how blended the patterns are it is easy to hit hang spots and hook spots all over the place, making you chop or miss the spare completely.

I just flat out disagree, I hooked it at spares when I first started bowling regionals and can't begin to tell you how many pins I threw away.

Maybe i don't throw as many buckets as you? Might be a style thing, but I honestly don't throw them that much, and when I do I think my percentage is very high when hooking it. I throw the same shot on all conditions, a slight hook of about 2-3 boards, aiming at the 5 pin and hooking it into the 2. I honestly don't think i've missed one in about 3 months.

Now the 3-6-9-10 on the other hand... thats a different story. I still can't figure out the best way to pick that up, my percentage on that is probably about the same as my washout conversion percentage.

You have to do what works well for you.  When you cannot hook the middle of the lane, you have to go straight, then you need to stay straight.  I am sure WRW will tell you HE missed the shot, regardless of equipment.  Thabt's the thing when playing straight, there are no excuses for errant shots.

Last week I threw plastic at every spare.  I was clean through two games doing this, where I would normally miss at least one or two spares in that period.  Why did I do that?  I watched the pros, most of whom throw plastic hard and straight at just about everything.  It worked for me!
