Roll to Riches-Barnes Choke
« on: May 05, 2006, 09:29:17 AM »
So, I think this proves that he chokes under pressure.  I can't believe he won with a brooklyn.  I hate scroggins, but I feel bad for him.  Thats the worst way to lose.  I am not saying Chris is not a great bowler, but he isn't that great under pressure.  If he ever gets that problem fixed, he would be right up there with TJ>

ill give you 5 shots under the greatest pressure of your life on a broken down E pattern, and i guarentee, you wont get 1 flush strike unless you chuck it hard and straight at the pocket.

I didn't say I could make the shot. but if you want to be considered the best in the world, you need to step up and make a great shot.  even with the shot before where he left the 10 pin, he fell off his shot cuz he was so nervous.  you never see him fall off his shot until there is pressure.  He is still a top 10 in the world, but to be #1, he needs to come thru under pressure.  he is a lot like Karl Malone.  Great all year until it comes to the finals.  Then he chokes.  Thats the difference between Malone and Jordan.  Jordan thrived under the pressure, and Malone folded.

Im not saying hes a choke artist, but....

Barnes kind of reminds me of Jaros (before his breakout season). People would bowl Jaros on TV and he would be pacing with them usually around even and then he would make 1 shot that just made you say "What was that"? It wasnt just once---it was every time. Sometimes he would get away with it, but against professionals most times you wont. Barnes does the same thing. He has all the game in the world, but inevitably he makes a shot at the end of matches that is just not quality (unless he already has the match locked up). You can get away with it, or you get flamed by it---either way, Barnes is not the greatest---nor will he be the greatest.

What I would love to see is Barnes get up in the 9th and 10th frame of a CHAMPIONSHIP match and throw 4 strikes in a row to lock up a title. Leave no doubt---for once.

I don't get it....the choke thing...Barnes didn't throw 6 brooklyn strikes he threw one. Barnes and Scroggins both threw good balls that left pins.

Scroggins thought he got ripped off but Barnes was the first to six. Winning ugly is still winning and he has won this tournament twice in a row.

Barnes beat them all to death last year. Barnes will figure out how to win on TV.

You are right.  he did only throw one brooklyn, but he threw it when there was a ton of pressure.  scroggins shot was a little weak, thats why he left the 7.  Barnes 1st shot to win it left a ringing 10, but he fell off his shot cuz he was so nervous.  I think he was lucky to hit the pocket on that shot.  He is usually perfectly balanced at the line.  so when he falls of a shot(especially in the 10th), you know its cuz the nerves are getting to him.  I would also love to see him get up in the 10th to strike out and win with 3 flush strikes.  I'd love for him to get the monkey off his back.  I bet this sticks in his head the next time he takes a pressure shot on TV.  He will remember how bad of a shot he threw the last time he was faced with a lot of pressure.

Dude your nuts.  Did you see last years roll to richs?  He crushed TJ.  TJ looked like he chocked in that one.  That is sarcasm of course.  Come on dude I can't believe you say he chocked.

bowlallthetime,

Hate to tell you this, man.  But, just about every shot in the Roll to Riches is a pressure packed shot.  This is not like match play of a tournament where you get 7 games to win 4 and advance.  This is a race to 6, 6 strikes.

Tommy Jones is one of my favorites.  HOWEVER, if you watch some of his matches, he gets away with some errant shots.  In the final of the US Open, Shafer actually bowled better, but the pins just did not fall.

Like someone else in these forums told me after the Super Bowl, "Choking means you lose.  You can't choke and win."

Barnes has had a rough time in the tv finals.  There is no doubt about that but to call him a choker because he threw a Brooklyn to win is bs.  What about the 10 strikes in a row he threw while doing thr Roll to riches?  I didn't see TJ or any of the guys do that.

Another point about Barnes making bad shots.  How many pro's make bad shots?  All of them.  TJ has been lucky in many of his TV finals that he won.  Everyone talks about TJ like he's is the best bowler in the PBA.  Yet I don't feel he's as good as Barnes.  We will see who has more titles by the end of there career.

Well with your feelings about Barnes being a choker then I guess you would have to call everyone that lost to him in the Roll to riches chokers.  What about WRW I didn't see him striking at will like Barnes.  What about TJ I didn't see him even make it to the finals.  I guess he's a choker as well.

I am not saying anything about Karl Malone choking, but maybe a better person or team to bring up is the Atlanta Braves, they are the poster boys for choking in the postseason.I am not saying Karl Malone chokes or doesn't choke,I just think Atlanta is perfect example of playing great in the care free June games against Pittsburgh or any other terrible team, but when it comes time to play a REAL game against a tuff team in October, might as well say good night Gracie.

Hahaha that makes no sense at all. The Braves are my team...but you just said in June, in regular season games, they can beat the terrible teams, but then when they make the playoffs and play the better teams, they lose. Thats called just not being good enough....by the way....Barnes is a choker...cant handle an ounce of pressure...

Maybe he was just paying homage to another (in)famous member of this board that won a major title with the aid of crossovers...
