Lefty PTQ qualifying
« on: February 20, 2006, 01:27:22 AM »
In relation to the discussion about lefty righty issues.

Two years of PTQ qualifying school and no lefty has come close to qualifying in the top 10 through the school.

I predict there will never be a lefty qualify for the pro tour via the PTQ qualifying school.  NEVER.

I am convinced that some of the great champions of today would NOT be able to get in to the top 10.

The combination of a difficult shot that never opens up on the left...or barely starts to open up at the end of each block coupled with the righty shot opening up after 3 games makes it just too much to overcome despite the obvious skills of some of the lefties.  (I believe some of the greats from above can finish in the top 20 but top 10 ?????)

What will the tour be like when the current crop of lefties ages and retires.
Patrick Allen...Jason Couch and Parker...will it be an all righty tour!?

Here are some of the fine lefties who are not on tour and clearly are very fine bowlers.

Ricky Ward, Eric Forkel, Chris Hayden, Richard Wolfe.

Richard Wolfe is probably one of the best pure throwers in the World...can't get on tour.

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS I think this week again showed that it is a travesty that a Randy Pederson is not on tour either!

19year old prodigy Ryan Ciminelli is at the top of this week's PTQ round, 7 games into it, averaging 243.  How about that.  Oh yeah, he's lefthanded and he throws a HUGE ball.

how did you see him at a college tournament 2 years ago when he was a freshman last year?  But I bowled with him last year and he can hook the piss out of the ball

I understand your concerns for the long term, LL, but do you really think the PBA will still be using this format 10 years from now??  I just don't see it lasting that long, at which point your concerns may be moot.  I have no idea how it will change, I just think it will.

Well...one or two more years of no lefties qualifying...maybe they'll start to figure it out!

In the meantime if I was a great bowler and my hand was left and I was thinking of making a living bowling....I'd move in with MOM!  Or go overseas!

Lefty I don't mean to rip on you, but please stop referring to Tour Trials as the PTQ.  The PTQ is the weekly qualifier, tour trials is the "q school" during the summer.
It's easy to see Ciminelli bowling well, kid throws it very hard on a shorter pattern and he has a ton of leverage at the bottom.  On a longer or heavier pattern i could see him struggling.  We'll see how he handles matchplay tomorrow it seems, should be interesting.
