Rudy Revs Tearing up Tour Trials
« on: June 04, 2005, 02:05:34 PM »
After averaging 168 in his first 3 games, he switched balls and shot 858 in his next 3 games.  299-279-280.

There's something scary about Rudy being exempt...so many young impressionable bowlers will try to emulate him. *shudder*  Can you imagine a bunch of 12 year old wannabes trying to tear the cover off the ball like Rudy does? LOL

I'll be keeping up with how this turns out.  I've got a couple of South Region acquaintances who are in the running, including Chris Collins (7th) and Richie Allen (10th).

Hats off to Rudy!

When ever I have a big tournament and I called Rudy, he would always come. He is great to have around. Definitely, Mr. Excitement.

He was made to be on tour. Bowling needs personalities like his to enlighten our sport.

Rudy's style might be a little hard to emulate.

Go Rudy!

Ques. What equipment was he using?

Nut, kids don't have to watch Rudy to want to rip the cover off the ball.  I went and watched my sister in a JBT event last month and 80% of the guys all try to hit up on it like theres no tomorrow.  Apparently thats the way to score nowadays.

Try more like 95% of juniors, and they have absolutely no outside game. No adjustments besides ball at all.

Oh I see we're getting into "the juniors today only know how to hook the whole lane and can't move and can't shoot spares" discussion again...

Yes we are, hopefully you are among the 5% of people that can shoot spares and adjust. Do you have an argument against the claim that most kids just want to hook the ball? Would you say that more than 1 in 20 youths actually care about shooting scores and not impressing the ladies?

Stanski, you are correct about the outside game.  Unfortunately most of the jbt shots up here are THS so the guys leading the field are the "Crank the piss and who cares if I miss" guys who play the same line all day.  I will give them credit for their ability to open up a pattern, something I do not have the ability to do, but I like knowing that I can hold my own on patterns where I have less than 15 boards of area.

I'm not knocking on the guys who crank on the ball, many of them are vary talented, but from what I have seen up here, adjustments are few and far between.  This could be from the condition put down, but either way that is what I have seen.  I've bowled with many of the talented junior bowlers up here and have had my butt handed to me many a time from them.
