I dont know Greg, I mean sure he sucks... but walter couldn't even beat a half dead Duke . Nice to see guys having to make decisions out there instead of throwing 250 left and right!

I've seen it and done it a dozen times over: the sickest guy in the house scores and bowls the best. Beware the guy who seems to be dying and should be in bed: he'll take you to the cleaners.

I always bowled well when I was sick. It kept me from getting to the line too fast and muscling the ball (my normal shot, it seems) and I got better ball reaction as a result.

Why does everyone on this site hate Shafer so much?  He's one of the nicer guys out there....but just like Scroggins he doesn't hook it and crowbar it so the masses think he sucks.

I stand by my comment that Robert Smith could kick a baby on the telecast but some of you would still say "man he sure is a nice guy".

Robert Smith is a Upcoming Star. Schafer has been on Tour for 21 Years and only has 4 Titles. Some of them are nice guys but cocky. I know they are the 64 best but Schaefer making that one comment a while back at a Fellow Bowler was out of line.

What comment?  "Not today, Norm"...are you @!$#%king kidding me?  Bowlers talk trash to each other in each match.  Norm Duke plays mind games with his opponents constantly.  Tommy Jones calls for tape in matches and switches balls from the paddock when he is throwing fill balls to make his opponent wait.

Yet for some reason you guys find it reason to hate him.  Seriously....?

Please tell me there is some comment I am missing here.....

No one likes Shafer because he is very cocky and whines a ton.

Also, its obviously not about who throws the bigger hook, because Norm Duke is one of the bigger fan favorites, and throws very little hook most of the time.

Just curious when you've seen him whine and cry and be cocky?

I've been around him a little in competition and haven't seen that.  He was pretty nice.....but hey I'm not an armchair quarterback judging someone by a 20 minute TV match.

He is ALWAYS complaining and crying! If I have to point out one show to you then you obviously don't watch the shows anyway, cause if you did you would see it just about everytime he makes TV!

Also... WTF? The big hook makes everything interesting?? For the record Shafer plays just as if not deeper on the lanes than everyone else on the shows! I honestly think you just have a problem with people who throw the "big hook".

I have no reason not to believe a story my local driller tells about Ryan Shafer... and anyone that swears in front of young children in an elevator will NOT get my respect.

Ryan Shafer IS NOT one of the nicest guys out there. Where did you get that from? He's not as bad as Eugene McCune but he is not one of the nicest guys on tour.

Shafer is a very good bowler but his being cocky has rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way.  Kind of the same thing happened with Sean Rash when he made those comments to the fans in Baltimore last year.  Some guys just come across as A-holes and fans don't like them.

Duke is probably the most liked guy on tour.  I like Duke because of his simple game!  There's just something about watching a guy play straight and kick all the higher rev players butts.  He makes it look so dam easy.

My favorite match of his was from last season.  I'm not sure of the name of the tourney but it was on the Shark pattern and they bowled in New York.  Duke had to beat 3 guys to have the chance to go against Shafer.  All the guys he bowled were playing inside lines reving it up.  Duke is playing the 7 board and just crushing each guy he faced.

...and he's still exempt.  When the lanes are that tight, the pros generally revert to their "A game" even if it doesn't entirely match up.  Norm sure did.

Mr. Shafer's had some bad days, but I believed him on the telecast when he muttered "go ahead and boo, you don't know the whole story" (or something to that effect).  Anyone claiming differently hasn't walked a mile in his shoes.

But wait, he creates some controversy with that smack talk.  Haven't I seen most of you posters here saying how boring the PBA telecasts are?

Why was he so arrogant and try to hook a ball on that pattern anyway? The Australian Frawley maybe because he had no experience, but Shaffer ought to know better.

This post is why bowling is dying...he has been making a living bowling for 21 years and you think he's no better than a league bowler.  Why does he keep making US Open shows and shows when the lanes are much tighter?

You're a typical house hero.....you're better than them...yada yada yada.

I don't think Norm was even sick. It was a psych out, and everyone bought it. I'd rather see Ryan Shafer win every telecast for the rest of his career then see Norm put both hands in the air like he scored a game winning goal and cry like a little girl. He's the reason I don't even eat club crackers anymore, I get mad when I look at the box and I dump them all over the floor and stomp on them. F'ing Elfs.......
