Title: Ryan Shafer
Post by: jbuzz31 on February 09, 2009, 01:48:37 AM
Is it just me or does it look like he muscles the ball quite a bit?  I thought that was unusual for a pro. It apparently works for him so its not  a knock.  Does anybody else see him as somebody muscles it? Or do i just have a poor analysis?

It is not you.  He has very little backswing so he muscles the release to get anything on it.  Like you said...it works for him.

It looks like he muscles the ball. And like he tops or spins it a little bit. It certainly isn't how most coaches teach it, but we have to give the guy credit. He can score doing it his way.

Don't forget the lack of knee bend and standing up at the line.  Textbook, not by any means, but the guy is able to repeat shots, which all of us strive to do!

So much hate on this site.......
Now I know why I don't spend much time on here......
Guess it would be hard for all us to just get along and post constructive
comments about bowling......right???

Hey site administrator !!!!!!
I want it made mandatory that the users age is posted with every post they
make.  My guess is many users ages in here are higher than their IQ's !!!!

Yes indeed to say the least. I couldn't find it on the internet, but I have the 1988 US Open where Pete Weber goes up againt Shafer in the semi finals. Ryan used to rip the holes out of the ball like I've never seen plus how fast his ball was. It was close to Eugune McCune speed. I don't remember why he changed but somewhere I'm assuming in the early 90's he went from cranker to tweener. I couldn't imagine what that would be like to see him live back in the day. He also played the lanes using the dots. I'm not sure if he uses the arrows or area now. I do wonder if he could bowl like that now at 40. Put some accuracy behind it and would be a devastating ball.

Thanks for breaking the rules and using profanity. You're being reported loser.

I'm a loser? You are the one insulting someone who is 100 times a better bowler than you will ever be because you don't think he is good looking....... And he could make more money somewhere else being a scarface replacement or a male medusa? Why don't you go bowl him and he will clean out your entire bankroll, however small that bankroll is. Your an idiot and an a55hole.

pate I don't share his hate for you, but I do think the ridicule of Shafer for his appearance is very childish a disrespectful.  The man has proven he is one of the best bowlers on the planet for the past 15 years, and all some of you can talk about is his superficial issues.

Ryan is diabetic which in some cases can result in severe acne and infection, especially around the jawline.

You guys are amazing at times.

shafer was burned on his face as a young man hence the scars.  pretty sad to rip on a guy that had to go through that.

His first show was the 1986 Brunswick Memorial World Open, and when I saw him on it, I couldn't believe the difference. A bunch of head movement and even more hit at the line than now.

And say what you want about his ball, he is not spinning it.

You are right, there was a time where this kind of behavior would end up challenging the insulting one to a fight. In other cases poeple get a slap on their face and go without meal to bed, times changed.

I dont know if now is better but patience is a virtue.

Thank to djrs could see the show. Great show, great bowlers but Ryan Shafers stile is not exactly what i like to see in a TV Final. I know, i know the name of the game is knocking down pins.

WATCH OUT SPOILER

Fagan was way more fun to watch especialy when he was forced to loft the gutter.

it's almost always the indian and not the arrow
yes and i like this one also
don't go for a strike, go for a sure spare, we need 5 pins to win
