Ciminelli and plastic ball in practice
« on: January 30, 2011, 01:18:07 PM »
I was at the matchplay late Friday and at the finals on Sunday in Dublin.  Both days during warm up I noticed Ciminelli was using his plastic ball up the outside.  I have heard of using a really dull aggressive ball to try to burn up the oil but what is the deal with the plastic.

I believe one would do that to push the oil further down the lane.

Yes in Ryan's case he tends to "snatch" the ball a little at release, so on the fresh his ball does tend to want to jump.  Hence why he bowled so well with the Natural last year.  The carrydown probably plays towards him as it will tame down his backend reaction.

How long did Ryan practice with the plastic?

He just threw it every now and then..It wasn't a super concentrated effort but you could see he was trying to do something with it..

He would throw his world beater for a while in practice and then throw the plastic straight down the left side for 2 or 3 shots.. then go back to his world beater.. and then back to the plastic for another couple of shots.. He wasn't trying to practice picking up pins either..he was just tossing it..

He used the world beater during matchplay
