Title: Scroggy
Post by: jbuzz31 on December 07, 2008, 06:56:24 AM
if scroggins keeps making shows at the rate he is currently, and wins two titles like he did last year, or even more........i think he could possibly be the POY at the end of the season..........but then there is also Wes and Bill O'neill.

Should be a good year with some new faces leading the board.

Scroggins is a good bowler but he doesn't translate into good t.v.

Like it or not, he is one of the most dominant bowlers on the tour right now, and has been for a couple of years now.

one of the most dominate behind Oneil (this year) malot (every year) barnes, duke, and williams (every year) that is why he never gets looked at. These are the faces of the PBA and scroggy never will be...

Scroggy, unfortunately, is nothing more than a left handed Chris Barnes with half the game.  What I mean by that, is he bowls well during the week only to not put any wins together on tv.  Add to that he is not multi-dimensional like a Chris Barnes (can't play up 5 one week and then swing 20-5 the next).  You give him between 1st and second arrow, he is one of the best out there.  However, like Barnes, he only seems to win about once for every 8 times he is on tv.

He had some bad shows about two years ago after winning his only major.

I believe there was something going on with his grip causing him to thrwo a knuckler back then!

I haven't seen any more of that for about two years.  I think he will win many more than indicated in the past due to that like 5 show disaster period!

I have no problem with the guy. Everyone has a niche and his is accuracy. He looks pretty humble, and so what if he's awkward in front of a camera? I've worked on both sides of the camera on television it's not easy.

Bottom line, if someone else thinks they or one of their favorites should be there and not him, do something about it. Beat him during the week or on television.

Seeing as how Mike Scroggins is a better bowler than every member of BR I guess we should all wish we could be as "bad" as Scroggy.  He rules, I like him.

Scroggy averaged over 250 for a full season on "our" shot. You gotta' give it to him for being consistently good.  I actually have come to appreciate his simple game.

Regarding the wrist brace, some bowlers use them to help them repeat shots, so it doesn't mean he's had wrist problems. I pull out my Mongoose Equalizer whenever I feel like I'm struggling.

Look at all those honor scores!

Though actually in this case Scroggins DOES have wrist problems, which is why he always wears one.  It's painful for him to bowl without one.

I didn't say he wasn't a great bowler. It's just what I notice when he's on TV. He's a great guy, and I wish him well. I probably should have either written that post better or not posted it at all.

Also, love the word douchebag. Good stuff

he's a great bowler just has a horrible record on TV. Give him a few more titles and a better TV record he would be right up there. He gets a bad rap for a simple and boring game for lack of a better word. He is strait up the the lines on the left side and when you got high rev guys wheeling the ball throwing pins around like there nothing guys like Simard Malott and Jones Who would you rathe watch on TV ?

He doesn't work anything on the ball.  He basically lets that huge azz glove/wrist support keep his arm/wrist steady and he just drops the ball down on the alley.  I think his rev rate is like 60 rpm LOL!

It's no offense to Scroggins, he has been making show after show for a few years now, but he is boring to watch. That doesn't mean he is not a GREAT bowler. He is on tour, making shows, while 99% of us would have to pray to make it through the TQR with a 180 average. I pull for O'neill cause he is a local guy up here in PA, I like to watch Simard, TJ, and Maximum Bob, but also I love Duke. Scroggons is a really good bowler and seems like a decent guy too, I guess some ppl think he doesn't show enough emotion, I have no problem with it, act like you've been there before ( cause he has haha ), but it doesn't make for good TV.

I think his game is the closest to Earl Anthony today as far as line chosen, rev rate vs speed, etc.

I don't think he needs an excuse of a wrist brace because of pain.  If he wants to use it for consistency that's fine with me.

He is a very good bowler and I believe he will improve his television percentages over the next few years.

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS he has changed his 7 pin shot and it looks very good right now.  Don't know what he did but wish I was doing it!

Should've expected it, coming from the biggest one of all.  He must have a man crush on him.  I didn't see anything offensive in your reply.  Some people get there undies in a bunch over nothing.

I don't think i've ever seen Scroggins play inside.  The guy seems to be a one dimensional player.  However, the left side usually doesn't break down as quick which forces him to stay outside most of the time.

You have to give him his props because he's able to play ouitside on just about every pattern and have success.  Switching equipment to stay in one area of the lane is not a bad approach.

When's the last time you saw ANY lefty on the PBA tour play inside in the past three or so years?  With the way they've been laying the patterns, the shot's been right around the 1st arrow for awhile now, no matter what oil pattern they use.
