If it hadn't been Duke/Kent in the finals, I'd say the R2R would be irrelevant. The fact that the only two real candidates for PoY went head-to-head in the finals makes it somewhat relevant, to me. If, for instance, Barnes had won (again), I wouldn't consider him a stronger candidate for PoY, and if it had been Kent/WRW (who really doesn't deserve PoY by any measure), I don't know that I'd want to vote for Kent any more having won.
But Duke/Kent, the two guys who happen to be the real PoY candidates? I can't ignore it. Kent made a big, gutsy move for the last few shots and it really paid off. Duke stayed with his point-from-the-gutter shot that, frankly, was unreliable given the carrydown they were seeing.
Edit: Barnes' win the first time was pretty honest. He threw six good shots and struck on all six. The "race" to six was decided in the first frame when TJ didn't strike.
