Should Mika Have Thrown Plastic For 8?
« on: February 21, 2005, 06:29:36 AM »
When Mika needed 8 pins to seal the deal against PA, I think he would have been better off throwing plastic from the left side, straight at the 1-2 pocket.  With his accuracy, I don't think he would have had any problem knocking down 8 pins that way.

Instead, he hooks the ball at the 1-3 pocket, a shot that had previously left him with the bucket, among other multi-pin leaves.

I say throwing plastic at the pocket would have been the higher-percentage shot. I said so to my wife as he was stepping up in the 10th, so this is not Monday morning quarterbacking.

Do you agree or disagree?

I agree as well - especially with how accurate he is with his Geico ball. Did you see how well he covered all of those buckets and the 2-8? Absolutely dead square perfect each time!
I don't think he would've had any problem going high flush either 1-2 OR 1-3 (whatever his choosing was) and getting the necessary pins to win.

You weren't unlucky when you left that corner pin, so shut up about it already!!

Yeah he was dead flush perfect on those buckets. It's amazing how accurate these guys are.

Seadrive, you mean like the same exact thing PDW did at the open last year?  He needed 9 to win, and just flew plastic down the middle (and got a strike).

Maybe it would have worked, but we'll never know.

That may have worked, but why would you switch if you trust your shot?  To make the show, Mika obviously was making shots and had the confidence to execute.  I think Mika stuck with his normal shot because he trusted the line he was playing, he just didn't execute and thus didn't win.

I thought he should of thrown plastic. Especially since the strikes were hard to come by.

PDW needed 9 on two balls though(9 total in the tenth).  He just so happened to strike on the first one.  I'm sure he wouldn't have done the same thing if he just needed 9 on the last shot in the tenth

Mika made the right choice it was just poor execution of the shot.

Poor execution, my tuckus.  If he pulled it a board left, it was through the nose; if he got a board right, it was a bucket or a washout.

That's why I say his highest-percentage shot was a straight ball, right at the pocket.  His execution on that shot would have been perfect, I assure you.

No he should have stayed with Dexter. Check the last few shows he has been on he had at least 2-3 shots per telecast where he stuck and whiffed out. I believe in sundays telecast he had done it twice already once getting a break for a nine count and the other leaving a small puzzle. On the last ball watch the slide foot and follow through which fell off to the right. I did not see any slide. Maybe it was the intensity and was him but have noticed it every te;ecast he has made this year. He has always been looking down at the shoes or testing the slide. $.02

I think if you have been leaving buckets you should try something new.
