Commissioner's exemption
« on: January 06, 2005, 06:35:00 AM »
We may have a first this week.  The exemption (Tom Candiotti) after the first 6 games is ahead of one person (Brian Himmler - by 28 sticks).  Yes, there are still 8 games to go, but has the exemption yet to beat anyone in the round of 64?

The commissioner's exemption has yet to beat anyone in the round of 64, but up until now, as you know, the round of 64 has been match play.  I suspect that more than one of the first half commissioner's exemptions would have finished higher than 64th in a 14 game qualifier against the field.  Bill Spigner and the guy in Wichita (sorry, I don't remember the name) had reasonable showings in their first round matches during the first half.  There may have been others that bowled well, but unfortunately, I don't remember.  The perils of aging - a failing memory.

As long as we are discussing this, does anyone know how to look up results of previous tour events?

I mis-posted in my previous post.  After using Seadrive's link (thanks, Seadrive), I found the following results for the commissioner's exemptions to date (please excuse the format - I don't know how to line up columns in one of these posts):

Event                        Player          Games   +/-   Average
PBA Geico Open               Tom Candiotti    14     -166  188.14    New format
PBA Orange County Classic    Mark Baker        4       -5  198.75
PBA Earl Anthony Classic     Marshall Holman   4      +32  208.00
PBA Denver Open              Randy Pedersen    6     +139  223.17
PBA Pepsi Open               Tim Penner       11     +188  217.09    Advanced
PBA BowlersParadise.com Open Dick Weber        4      -50  187.50
PBA Uniroyal Tire Classic    Jim Pencak        5     -113  177.40
PBA Chicago Open             Bill Spigner      5     +195  239.00

In the Pepsi Open, Tim Penner beat Steve Jaros in the round of 64 to advance to the round of 32, where he lost to Rick Lawrence.
