Hopefully this is the last we see of this stupid segment. I do give em credit for trying something different, but who cares if you can make a 7-10 with 2 balls using your opposite hand with you eyes closed....

got mule?

And no one even tried my one and only trick shot - changing hands behind my back while in my approach.

The only "skill" I liked was when Parker threw the ball between 3 chairs and struck. I'm not talking about when he did it with the plastic chairs. I liked when he went through the chairs that people were sitting on, but even that got old.

It all got old quickly. 1) Insert bowler here 2) Do any number of same so-called "skill shots" or "tricks" 3) Lather, rinse, repeat 4) Audience/Crowd instruction - wipe drool off cheek after about week three because you passed out from boredom.

maybe they could try moving it out to the parking lot or throwing up hill

i say get them all rip-roaring drunk before the skills challenge. and i mean fall-over, urine-down-the-pantleg sloppy drunk. that would make it VERY interesting!
"Chris barnes is going to attempt to throw a strike with his actual bowling arm and his actual strike ball over his actual path to the pocket... WHOOPS! that one laned on lane 12 and picked off the 6-9-10. wow, randy, he really did just chuck that one onto the other lane. amazing. Jack Daniels really packs a punch, ehh, randy?"

funniest thing i have ever read on here:

Yeah, they're called Lane #1s....
JUST KIDDING!!!

I'll second that

I almost peed my pants reading that. Great commentary.

I think Barnes displayed a great deal of athleticism and talent in his trick shots. I was very happy to see him win.
You're all so damn jaded. I thought that Flying Eagle shot was awesome!

Pin a rose on his nose.....

He's a nice guy and all. I've met and like him well enough, but it's not about him. It's about the boredom induced by the competition as a whole.
-
you guys gotta admit that the 2,3,8,9 conversion was pretty cool.
-
Yeah, that's cool in and of itself.
-
Flying Eagle was cool.
Like PB3's chair shot, Barnes' left-hand chair shot, Barnes' 2-3-8-9, and that 45 pins shot was real cool too!!!!!!!!!!
Don't know if they should do this again next year, cos I guess it'd hard for them to come up something new. (Maybe Tim Mack's between the legs strike shot or Bob Learn Jr's reverse 10-pin shot, but that's about it)

If they do it next year, I'd like to see actual trick shots that people could leave while bowling. Try picking up the 4,9 or big 4 or 7-10 or 5-7-10 or something like leave the 1 pin only. That would be more exciting, I think.
-
Though all of you on this website DESPISED it, with Joe bowlers and non-bowlers, it was more popular than the matches themselves. I used to talk about the show with my joe bowler friends, and they always talked about pretty much only this part. Sometimes I'd have to ask them if they even watched the real matches.
So while you guys hate it, the common public enjoyed it more than the real matches. Probably because there was actually a little variety/excitement involved.
But I don't think they'll be able to do it again, since they've pretty much used up anything they had.

I'd like to see them leave the same washout twice in a row. During practice last night, one of my opponents left the 1-2-4-6-10 washout, then put his second ball between the 1 and the 6. I've done that as well, but never on purpose (actually scratched both pins enough for them to wiggle, grrrr...). I'd like to see a pro do something like that.
The closest thing we got was Brad Angelo's long-winded story about how he could put the ball between the 5 and 10 in the 5-7-10. I'm not sure what the 7 was there for, or why it's that impressive (other than a "don't hit ANYTHING" perpsective). It'd be much more impressive to get all three pins.
Heck, I've put the ball between the 5 and 10 plenty of times and all I ever get is groans from my teammates.
That said, I generally liked the trick shot portions, especially the Flying Eagle and the chair shots. The one with the guy standing with his feet just a short distance apart was cool too (Bohn-Fagan, maybe?). The one Himmler did with the screen at the foul line was nice, too. But I got tired of the "pick up some split with 25 balls" shots.

The Flying Eagle was the best one, hands down. In my opinion, the real waste of time was the 45(?) pin strike..

You detractors are just jealous because you aren't that good. Some of those shots take a good amount of skill that most of the people on this site just do not possess.

Bowlers (on the pba that is) being so uncreative is what was the real downfall of that segment. look at trick shot pool, and how popular that is. Its more popular than the actual events (some of my teenage friends watch it, and i know i do). Bowlers needed to come up with more interesting shots than every week "lets shoot between some chairs and pick up the 7-10 with two balls" shots.

I have to agree. The first few shows were pretty cool. But, the past month or so got to be too much. There was no originality to speak of. Everything was through the chairs or mutiple balls to make splits. I would have liked to see maybe someone going to the foul line, turn their back to the pins, and throw the ball through their legs. However, i guess when you have to fill that many shows, originality can be thrown out the window. I remember Parker got desperate enough for something different that he put a piece of tape on the lane and you had to roll the ball over the tape and get a strike. It was all cool at first, but I do not think they will do the same thing next year.

While a "Flying Eagle" looks cool, when do you need that in bowling? Jealousy has nothing to do with it. Sounds like you subscribe to the Napolean Dynomite theory of skills dig guys with great skills.

Guys,
Give this a chance. This was only its first year and some mildly entertaining to entertaining stuff was done. I kinda like how the pros weren't their "lane" persona and were able to talk trash and kid each other a little bit. Interaction is cool. Yes, it may have gone too long. Maybe next year they will shrink the field of participants. That may be an improvement.
Also, keep in mind that the NBA Dunk Contest absolutely stunk the past, I'll say, 5 years or so. With the exception of Chris Anderson, the dunk contest was back this year, baby!!!!!! Tremendous displays of athleticism were all over the place. A lot of us said that "We have seen it all!!!" as far as the dunk contest goes. If you watched this year's, you wouldn't be humming that tune anymore.
Let's keep our minds open and give this a shot.

Golf is the only sport where you shout "Fore!", shoot six and write down five.

I'll say it again. Barnes is on Pace to win at least 20 tournaments for his Career. That's pretty good.
-
Yep, definitely a case of sense-of-humor theft.

yes. he chopped a 3-6-10 and got lucky: P.A. didn't double and slam the door on his goofy a$s. with a double in the tenth it would have been over.

People, I know it got a little stale at the end, but as has been said previously, this was its first year.
In the off season these guys are going to master the chair shot, & the 2 ball 7-10, By next year they will have to up the ante' to win.
If they keep this segment going, I'd be willing to be you'll see some really cool stuff in a year or 2. As it is, that chair shot with the people sitting in them was awesome.
