I wonder what the PBA & Storms "OFFICIAL" comment is on this?  You must be careful with whom you back. After all he is not only a PBA player but Storms employee.  Most assured he should lose his Staff Position & be heavily reprimanded by the PBA.  NBA. NASCAR, FOOTBALL, BASEBALL all would come out and speak against such behavior and the Player would be doing public service announcements and community work for sure.  Hopefully the injuries are not serious but the boy "Kretzer" will be paying heavily for sure.  Maybe now he will stop tipping that sauce.

845, I read somewhere that he was being charged with DUI, Leaving the scene, and filing a false report (carjack).  Seems that it was an article linked on the PBA site in the Misc. section, not sure.

I have no problem locking anybody up who does alcohol drives a car and causes an accident with or without injuries.  What I do have a problem with is arresting people as they drive down the road because of the time of day or night or because it's by a bar.  Everybody assumes that people who are .08 are bad drivers and you will kill someone someday.  Do they arrest someone who is weaving in and out of traffic cutting people off at high speed....not usually unless they've been drinking.  Unfortunately it's a law and a big cash cow for the states.  If there is a better example of arresting people for what they might do, I can't think of one.

my sister almost miscarried years ago due a drunk driver hitting her. the sob also didn't have a license or insurance. my brother-in-law and i found a lawyer to garnish his wages till he paid her entire medical bill, the damage to her car, and her emotional suffering. my brother-in-law and i also explained to him that we had better not see or hear from him again.....or else. i have no use for people who drink and drive. i think more and more people feel this way but don't admit it.

People who drive drunk deserve what they get...

... but that doesn't excuse the States for turning DWI's into a cottage industry, replete with "counselors" (many of whom have no real psychiatric training) who get to keep you paying them for as long as they like, and cops who get paid time-and-a-half to drive around in unmarked cars at night, looking for people to pull over and give breathalyzer tests to.

I am not saying what he did is ok. Stop and think how many of us have drove after drinking. I know I have done my fair share. With that said if you want to hang me for that or think bad of me go ahead I don't care. I know what I did was wrong and dangerous. He made a bad decision there was an accident. Don't know if anyone is was hurt or not. So until we know what's going on with this whole situation let's wait and see. What I want to know though is if it would have been a bigger star out on tour would all of you act the same way?

I don't know him at all, but I always feel sad when talented people get in trouble and blow their chance at success.

Maybe he and Pete were drinking and thinking of Dick Webber's memory, and toasting the great man.

It sounded like a minor accident.

I remember Kretzer just missing being the US open champ except for an unlucky pocket 7 10.

As a person who loves to tip a beer(Irish heritage) I LOVE to drink.  As standards of DUI have been lowered I always keep a mental count of the bigger guy type that OK that's 2 this hour, maybe only 1 this hour, OK two next hour.

Nowadays life is just not as fun.  From tipping cows, tipping outhouses when I could find em.  Throwing eggs.  Having a fist fight for fun my youth was sort of fun.  Now all those things are misdemeanors or felonies.

Oh and the drinking we could down 16 or 18 pitchers for 8 guys in our early 20s.  Fun.  But then we would ride home with the two beers an hour guy!  Or call a cab.  Or fall asleep on the hoods of our cars.  Or throw up on our buddies dad's lawn.  Fun.  The pictures of my friends sleeping in their neighbors yards I've always enjoyed!  Especially when the dog was licking them. Fun.

Not fun when someone gets killed or maimed by someone stinkin drunk but today people get arrested for just over 2 beers an hour.

Too bad for Kretzer!  Too bad for people seriously injured by Drunk Drivers.

REgards,

Luckylefty

Had this just been a DWI, I doubt it would garner this much attention.  I'm not sure about NJ statutes, but in Texas, you get two bites at the DWI apple before it graduates to prosecution at the felony level.  HOWEVER...even if this were DWI 1st, the facts, as reported, would permit this case to rise to the felony level because of the FSRA charge added into the mix.  Additionally, because of the injury to another, it can move from DWI to Intoxication Assault.

That said, this is a case that will likely be resolved with a period of community supervision transferred from NJ to Kretzer's home state under provisions of Interstate Compact dealing with Adult Supervision.

And for the record...there has to be a medium in terms of sanctions from the court in a case like this.  Lock'em up and throw away the key is not the answer for alcohol-related conduct as it is not an offense where there is an intent to commit harm.  Personally, I don't feel like paying the taxes required to build enough facilities to house everyone convicted of DWI.  The flip side of the coin is that DWI is often an offense with high recidivism rates because of the lack of significant programming that can be offered...and again, this is largely a funding issue.

According to the article that AlaskaBill posted he wasn't charged with DUI or DWI, it doesn't even say he was suspected of being drunk.  I think some of you guys need to calm down.

Kretzer Crash Derails U.S. Open Hopes
Feb 24, 2005, 8:52 PM

Professional bowler Brian Kretzer was involved in a three-car accident in North Brunswick, N.J., on Thursday night, February 17. At the time, he was in 46th place in the BPAA U.S. Open, and was forced to withdraw when he was arrested on four charges stemming from the accident.

Lieutenant Roger Reinson, the North Brunswick Police
Departmentís press officer, said Kretzer was driving a
vehicle with Missouri plates when he was involved in
the accident. The vehicle reportedly belonged to Pete
Weber, who left town three days earlier after learning of the death of his father, Dick Weber.

"Mr. Kretzer fled the scene," Officer Reinson continued.
"A short time later, he made a call to say that he was a victim of a car-jacking. He later recanted that story, and admitted he was the driver of the vehicle with Missouri tags. He was charged with obstruction of justice, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident."

Bail was set at $10,000, and Kretzer was released the
next day when bail was posted. No court date has been set.

The PBA's official statement was brief: "Brian Kretzer
was involved in a traffic accident on the evening of
Thursday, February 17, in New Jersey and a hearing is
pending. Until such a hearing is held, the PBA will allow
Kretzer to participate in all PBA Tour events for which he is eligible. The PBA shall have no further comment on this matter unless and until new facts are brought to its attention through appropriate legal proceedings."

I TOLD YOU THE PBA WOULD AND NEEDED TO COMMENT
