Women's match on the telecast
« on: November 29, 2009, 09:49:26 AM »
I know they show the women's match in between the mens final but I was just wondering f anyone knew when they actually bowled.  I'm guessing it isn't in the middle .. is it before or after the men..

Seems their scores have been quite a bit higher than the men...

I figured as much..

I imagine there is no re-oiling before the mens match..

seems the shot gets a little squirly for the men after the women have bowled on it..
I wonder if the men's speed is a bad thing....

Yes they did reoil and there wasn't much practice on the TV pair either. I think that has a lot to do with the low scores.

then what do you think the reason for the higher scores for the women for the finals they have bowled?

Straighter is greater on harder pattern? Liz didn't bowl great but keeps out of trouble usually, Shanon's reaction has been pretty solid the last 2 weeks.

I would not say the last two weeks.  My understanding is that all these matches were bowled on the same day.

Looks like the surface is much better on the left side.  There's a more consistent reaction.

Just like any house, there's far fewer bowlers on the left side. So there's less wear and tear on whatever surface is there.

Agree completely, 500 rpm may look cool, but it doesn''t get the job done on every condition. In fact looking at the style of the guys and gals who have won the most tournaments, it doesn''t get the job done often.

That said, it must have worked some on the qualifying lanes judging by who made the finals on the TV pair.

I know bowling badly on TV has got to wear on a persons focus and confidence, but all those missed spares can''t really be laid on the lanes. Come to that, you can''t help wondering if a plastic ball wouldn''t have given at least a 180-190 score no matter what the conditions were - roll over the 2 board straight to the pocket, pick up the spare - next frame repeat.

I was going to say the same thing...
why not just straighten it out and blast the plastic at the pocket from the corner..?? but we have all been there...  When you have started the match and things aren't going right .. you tweak and move and change balls frame to frame thinking you can find the shot..and thinking its too late to make a major change and try to find the shot..
by the time you know it the game is over and you are telling yourself you could have scored that with plastic from the corner..
