Title: strange fascinations
Post by: BrianCRX90 on February 05, 2010, 07:50:35 AM
What is with USBC and now PBA with thier strange fascinations with the NBA and other sports like NFL. What''s with the drooling over Chris Paul? Is it too hard just to have a normal PBA tournament. Must I see a pro basketball player in every USBC magazine? Is there some sort of suck up job bowling feels it has to meet to have the respect of the USBC and PBA? Anyone else find this bizzare? Let''s cancel the Medford stop and keep a charity event. NO matter what the reason the charity and could be a good cause they could have had this in the summer while there isn''t a tour going on.

What''s wrong is the attitudes you two and other''s display on this site. This was filmed earlier in the year, during the holiday break. Chris Paul runs it and he can determine when he wants to hold it, not the PBA. Chris Paul is a celebrity, wether you want to acknowledge it or not. He is an NBA All-star who happens to enjoy bowling as well. Why not use his built in audience from basketball to try and draw people into our sport? Why not allow him to bring in other celebrities from other sports and from entertainment to help open up some people''s eyes as to 1) how much fun bowling can be, and 2) How good the PBA stars really are compared to average bowlers out there. Besides the fact that this is for charity and the money was used to help out good causes and the event was help at a military base to salute our men and women who protect the freedom you have to make an @ss out of yourselves on this site. You are two of the biggest maroons out there.

This also give's the average joe a glimpse at how hard the PBA oil pattern can be as well. You think, "How?" Well Chris Paul is a bowler who's just like any other bowling joe and you saw him have a hard time getting to the pocket. He even said out loud "How come I can't get this ball to hook!?" Cheetah pattern, he needed to be much farther right, out by Duke's line but he's not that advanced yet. I don't know if i would have done any better myself even though I know the area to play.

I enjoyed the show this past weekend as it was fun and for a good cause. I've said this before and I'll say it again, PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM NEED TO LIGHTEN UP!!!!

Everyone needs to get a grip on reality. The PBA needs a little celebrity hype to get other fan bases to start watching. Most importantly this was for charity to help the less fortunate.....if some of you folks on here had an ounce of good heart you would understand that there are good people out there that just want to help the less fortunate and those that need help because of medical reasons and such. I actually run a charity bowling tournament every year to help my wife''s charity that was created for her because of her medical issues. She was in need of a heart transplant for three years and finallly received it this past september. Some of you maroons on here couldnt even imagine the medical bills that pile up for such an illness. Now, do any of you maroons want to take a shot at me now too for wanting to help a good cause?

You could see it when they had the right camera angle.  The ball would hit friction, start to turn, then flatten out badly and die.

I saw that too but I wasn't going to get into this detail because I saw what the problem was. Jason did move him right some and he started getting to the pocket area better in the final match. I think I saw chris pauls last 3-4 shot's roll over 2nd arrow. Either way that clearly showed people that the shot isn't that easy.

I saw the celebrities laughing and having fun. I saw the pro bowlers laughing and having fun. The crowd was into it. It made me want to go bowling and have some fun too. Nothing wrong with that.

I also got to see an Invasion and a Mutant Cell go in a straight line. Didn't think that was possible...

I watched this show and liked it was kind of nice seeing the avg joe try to compete on the pba type conditions plus it kind of reminded me of a league setting where you got guys joking around and playing pranks  while your bowling So to all you winners Shut your mouth and enjoy the game and stop taking everything so serious.

There is no problem with this event.  Pro bowlers, Pro football/basketball stars, and money towards a charity.  Where is there an issue?  Everyone made out well in this event.  PBA got good press and attracted new bowlers to the PBA.  Chris Paul received good press for his charity.  Why is there something wrong with that?

It seems because most of the "bowlers" on this site hate anything that is not bowling and feel bowling should not be associated with any other spots in any shape or form.  Some people need to get over themselves and just enjoy the good press and publicity it brings to bowling instead of constantly harping on every tiny negative thing they can come up with.

those balls were rolling out as soon as they hit friction.. that is why Chris Paul's ball wasn't hooking like he said.. the ball went end over end as soon as hit the dry..
The invasion at what looked like a dull surface is probably way too much for that pattern... The ball companies just wanted to showcase their new equipment even if some guys were throwing it dead straight and not even trying to hook it..

The USBC is just trying to expand bowling to as many people as possible...
You don''t think that if a basketball player like shaq, jordan, bryant, or lebron promoted bowling as much as Chris Paul .. and was actually really good at it that it wouldn''t bring tons of basketball fans to bowling???..
USBC and PBA is looking for their Tiger Woods (please no jokes ) to bring everyone and their mother to the sport..and that is really what bowling needs to gain popularity.. Tiger brings alot of viewers but he also brought a ton of people to playing the game of golf as well..

jorge300, you can call me a moron all day if you like but this website is about bowling. bowling as a sport. not what was on tv sunday. that was not bowling as a sport. it surely wasn't about the pba tour. the exempt players have very few tournaments as it is and this type of event detracts from their chances at a title and earning a living. if this is being a moron then i'll take that title any day. by the way, i doubt you can beat this moron in a "real" bowling match. if you ever make it to kansas city get in touch with me and we'll see who the real moron is.

Greg,

Quite honestly I must respectfully disagree with your statement that this is detracting from exempt bowlers chance at a title.  The fact that bowling is having trouble attracting money paying sponsors is the reason why exempt bowlers are struggling to make a go of it.  Bowling must find a way to appeal to the masses not just those of us who are avid bowlers.

I enjoyed the interaction during the show between the celebrities and the PBA pros, but my expectations were not that the celebs were going to be on par with the pros.

Only a moron would criticize the PBA for giving back to charity.  He is not in the magazines because he is a NBA player.  He is in there because he is a USBC Spokesperson.  As far as the PBA is concerned, maybe they could try and extend the season a few more weeks and give the players more tournaments to bowl in.  But what alot of people fail to remember, is that the PBA bowlers go bowl in other stuff in the "off season" like the Weber Cup and other tournaments overseas to supplement their PBA Earnings.  If the PBA wanted to get creative, they could be more like the PGA TOUR and have the season more like 9 months as opposed to 6 entend the season to 25-30 stops a year as opposed to barely 20.  If they did 30 stops, that still gives the bowlers 22 weeks a year they are not out on Tour to do as they please.

Dudes - unless bowling is an enjoyable activity - why on Earth would you want to do it?

Enjoy, live long and prosper - take pleasure where you find it

Do you really want to be the bowlers nobody wants on their team because they have attitude issues? We all know bowlers that are good just not as good as they think they are, and with the fits they throw on the lanes just too high maintenance to be around.

Actually, I called you a MAROON, not a moron.....you have done a good enough job of showing that and calling yourself that, you don't need any help from me. This was held while the tour was off for the Holiday break...none of your precious stops were hurt by this. Since when is giving to charities a bad thing? Give it up dude, you are just making yourself look selfish and stupid everytime you post this BS. And as far as taking you on Mr. Internet Tough Guy.....from what I have heard the only thing that comes from Kansas City are steers and ....well you know the rest....and I doubt you have horns. My god, are you really as dumb as you come off in this post?!?

Here's my rebuttal on this subject:
Bah..I haven't watched all the event on my DVR. To be honest? I don't care who won. I'm going to delete it. I vomited after Mallott threw it in the gutter which sure looked like it was on purpose and was sick of watching f'n backup balls by a bowler that probably bowled 2 times in his entire life. Jesus...man...at least the celebrity golf tournament has some standards and some of them can actually play the game. Please inform me when the PBA decides to have a real tournament without gimmicks. I just hope to God the USBC Masters hasn't also been destroyed. Perhaps in the Masters we could make it a doubles matches with PBA players and top amateurs that had to go through a grooling tournament to get on tv and could pair them up with actors and actresses from the movie guild.

Well Jorge300 has done it again.

Gregg Hoppe a respected member of ballreviews for a long timehas been called names (of course the man used one letter different to hide behind ...(a cowardly action I believe) and insulted out here)

Gregg you continue to be well respected out here and admired by many as a class act and a very good bowler.

Jorge you continue to be identified out here as one of the biggest jerks on this site and maybe a good bowler.  But, with a personality like yours...how many even notice?
