Surprise, Surprise -Chris Collins drops out early
« on: May 31, 2009, 04:33:34 AM »
Imagine what it was like today - he bowled pretty bad - dropped out four games early.
Why do I suspect it's not an injury!

Call me names if you will - but don't call me ignorant. I have been within 10 feet of the FULL double bowling bags that Collins has thrown into the stands - hitting people who "care enough" to PAY to see these guys bowl. They don't deserve that treatment.

I've stood within 5 feet of Collins when he's been reprimanded - EVERY TIME I've ever seen him actually bowling at a tournament.

You let him hit me with one of his bags and he'll have a lot more to worry about than a reprimand. If the guy truly acts this way, HE SHOULD BE BANNED COMPLETELY, PERIOD!

I have passion, I have fire, and I HATE to lose, but I wouldn't make a complete AZZ of myself. This guy needs help and behavior modification, possibly even medication, before he either hurts someone or someone hurts him.

I don't know him, but it sounds like I wouldn't want to anyway.

You know what would be comical, if everyone that posts on here, had a forum that someone could come one and post what they thought of you & your work. The internet is a great place, for people who generally have too much time on their hands, to make posts about things that they really should not be commenting on. It allows anyone an opinion, such as myself, right now posting in regards to this meaningless post. Why would you take the time out of your life, wasting it posting about someone you could careless about? Does Chris making the exempt field have any impact on your life? DOes it make you feel better? About yourself?
Amazing how EVERYONE has to have an opinion.
Sorry for wasting my time on this...back to golf.

Rico, etc...
We don't post about the commonplace - at least most of us don't come to a message board for that.

We like to discuss the unusual, the different, the not-so-routine stuff. Most people don't find much to discuss when faced with the average. The humdrum. The usual. The normal. The plain. The sameness.

chris collins and rudy kasimakis both quit and are therefore quitters. however, chris collins is an embarrassment to the pba and bowlers in general. the pba doesn't need players like these.

I don't know if you meant to put it this way, but here's how that statement reads: Chris Collins can throw whatever kind of hissy fit he wants to and no one is allowed to comment about it, either because it's none of their business, they "just don't know" or something similar.

If I go to my place of business and throw stuff, break stuff and act out, my coworkers and employees will say something. If you televised my outburst and/or there existed a message board about my line of work and fans of me or another like me saw what I did, they would say something.

How can you expect someone not to?

I have never seen Collins go nuts. Therefore I don't talk about him going nuts. But to expect people to witness that and not say something is unrealistic. A pro bowler who melts down in public, at a venue, during a tournament in which he is representing the PBA is going to draw comments.

I had heard and seen the legendary temper of Chris.  I also sold him short for being a jerk before I ever spoke to him.  When I bowled regionals for a bit back in 2003 I had the PLEASURE of crossing with him once.  He was such a nice guy for the entire block, and was bowling pretty miserably.

I know he has a hot head...but he's such a super nice guy at all other times.  If you ever get the chance and see him at a tournament go strike up a conversation, he's very personable and a super nice guy.

I imagine he's not a pleasure when he's bowling bad, but many tour players are like that.

I just enjoy the logic there.

Considering I approved what Ric said, I might as well elaborate. Often on this same board, Eugene McCune has been a similar target of criticism due to his on-lane behavior (not saying that Gene has had the outbursts of Collins, but he seems to strike a certain chord with some people). I'm sure you are all familiar with how that topic runs its course.

I personally feel it is truly tough to judge an individual based on this alone. If I didn't have the chance to bowl in the same local area as Gene, maybe my thoughts about his antics may be in similar fashion to most of those on here.

I will be the very first person in line to stand up for Gene and say, "he's a great guy." I have always enjoyed when he subbed in leagues or bowled our local sweeper. He's not afraid to have fun with everybody and is not afraid to share his knowledge on the game. He has gone out of his way to help me with timing issues in the past. He really is a good guy. I'd vouch for him anyday of the week.

Yet, a decent amount of posters have no issue jumping on the guy without any previous knowledge besides what they had seen on tv and such. Gene wears his emotions on his sleeve. Yet, in just about every other sport, we praise these individuals who show their frustration and jubilation on every play.

There in lies my distaste with people throwing out opinions of what they perceive as a "bad guy" based on limited knowledge in most cases.

As far as Collins is concerned, I've never had an issue with him. He was actually on my squad at the USBC Open Championships this year and was rather pleasant to be around.

I can understand being upset in your case, mumzie, with his emotions nearly hurting an outside party. I wouldn't think very highly of him either in that situation.

But I'm just not sold on throwing someone under the bus based on limited experience.

I hope my points are understood.

I disagree. This is exactly what the PBA needs, a bad boy figure. Of course with the exception of not harming anyone or anything. Chris is a natural athlete with God given talent. That coupled with a deep passion for winning, is a bad mixture at times. Look at Vince Lombardi or Dale Earnhardt. How to we rate them? Just my .2

not to go back to the US Open but would you call PDW a quitter too?  i highly doubt that the man would bow out with a record 5th title on the line.  not to mention the 100k first place prize.  i dont remember but im sure that there was some people that said he did quit so Mike Edwards could get his points.

for all we know, maybe he was hurt, and was trying to grind through the pain.

Jayemm you are so correct. The US Open a prestigious event and PDW W/D'ed causing all kinds of havoc with exemptions and points. Does that mean he doesn't have HEART? You see people W/D out of alot of tournaments yet we choose to single out Collins. I believe there was roughly 17 W/D's from Tour Trials. Yet, no mention of the other people besides Rudy of course.

Scott Newell bowled many TQR's last year in the 2nd half.. Great player, no mention of him W/Ding

Lucas is a great international player!! Has won a few different tournaments, YUP HAS NO HEART because he W/D'ed!!

Tom Sorce great player out of NY area, man all these guys have NO HEART because they chose to W/D

81, Christopher Collins, Savannah, Ga., withdrew

82, Scott Newell, Deland, Fla., withdrew
83, Chris Cundiff, Portage, Ind., withdrew

84, Chris Polizzi, Spring Hill, Fla., withdrew
85, Tim Bell, Garden City, Mich., withdrew
86, Craig LeMond, Jasper, Ind., withdrew
87, Michael Wall, Fayetteville, N.C., withdrew
88, J.T. (Action) Jackson, Valley Village, Calif., withdrew
89, Lucas Legnani, Argentina, withdrew
90, Ivo Raul Chiriboga, Miami, withdrew
91, Brian Kjergaard, Fulton, Ill., withdrew
92, Nick Weber, St. Charles, Mo., withdrew
93, Rudy Kasimakis, Baldwyn, Miss., withdrew
94, Tom Sorce, Blasdell, N.Y., withdrew
95, Aaron Halash, Scottsdale, Ariz., withdrew
96, Jack Nealon, Bowie, Md., withdrew
97, Michael Norris, Livonia, Mich., withdrew

Really why don't we talk about all these people having no Love for the game or Heart!! Instead we single out Chris Collins. Ohh by the way PDW hasn't has his outbursts on tour right? What happens to him.. ohh NOTHING!! That's right!!

As Rico also stated, meaningless post as I said before as well!!

Someone elsewhere also said Rudy Revs pulled out to go bowl a regional -- knew he was too far behind in that tournament and decided to cut bait rather than fish. I'd have a hard time calling that "being a quitter" and would more aptly describe it as trying to get a paycheck.

Jess, the Haters and people with way to much time on their hands will tell you no he should of stayed and tried to bowl the other 2/3 patterns and make the top 8. That because it was for his job next year. Not to pull out and bowl a regional that makes a couple thousand dollars.. He had no HEART when he made that decision to give in and say I don't have a chance. When in turn it takes MORE HEART to suck it up and say you know what I don't have a chance, BUT I might have a chance at the regional and I am going to W/D!! But very few people will look at it that way!
