Title: Thank You Chris Barnes
Post by: TWOHAND834 on March 22, 2009, 05:05:51 AM
I want to give kudos to Chris in the telecast for telling us not only what moves he is making, but actually going through in detail the balls he is using and in the first game, telling us the pin placements of the bowling balls as well.  After the second game, he specifically mentioned using the Resurgence but if it starts getting too early or too flat, he will switch to the Momentum Swing to give him more backend.  Thank you Chris!!!!  This is what the shows need.  BTW....love this format; not for everyweek, but like the variety of formats this year.

Agree, and I think every bowler in TV should explain his material.

It was a great job by Chris Barnes today, not only coming back from early disaster, but to never give up.

Today's telecast was fun to watch, and I agree I thought it was informational the way he was explaining his equipment. Too bad Walter Ray didn't do the same thing with his equipment.

Watch out, Barnes has room to grab the spotlight away from Big Wes

I honestly don't think that every bowler can!! Every bowler isn't as technical as Chris Barnes is and might not be able to communicate their gameplan as clearly.  But it would be cool if their ball rep could speak on it for them.

As far as the format, I liked it.  If Strike Pass would invest in some better cameras for strike pass then you could get this every week then maybe get interviews with players as to where they are playing and ball selection and what not.  That way the info that Randy gets during the week we will have too but for every player, not just those that make the show.

Dang, PBA needs to gimme a job!! LMAO

Walter Ray is just so one dimensional with his game.  If he loses his carry on that down and in shot he is cooked.  Did anyone else here him talk about starting to use a two handed release?  He is practicing it because he knows he can't hook it.  My grandpa would spin in his grave if he sees Walter throw a two hander on tv.

i agree. did you see wrw after it started transitioning he moved 1 board then a few shots he lofted it more and then took more hand out then had to split boards more than he already was just so he could still play up 5. people that keep saying he can hook it are full of crap

I'm under the impression that Walter doesn't use different drillings. Everything is pretty much drilled the same ball to ball and he makes his adjustments the old fashioned way - with his feet, ball speed and release.

People who say Walter cant hook it forget when he was the only right out of 5 spots on a show out on the left coast. The last 8 of qualifying he went nuts playing way left when the other righties were toast. I believe he won at least his first match, and lost on a 4 or a 10 pin in his 2nd match. But he had no look, and was hooking it and just making it work.

No, he isnt a cranker---but he makes things work for him.

A side note---I like that Barnes beat someone who averaged 230 on the show. Thats good. Im just waiting for that "3 strikes to win" situation though. If it happens next week---Ill be honest---Im not betting against him right now.

Chris Barnes is not a choker---he is just a great opponent to draw on TV.

why doesnt he do that on shows when they start transitioning when he has obviously lost the pair like he did today then.

I call BS on this. I've seen him hook the lane. I've been on the pair next to him when he averages 225+ for 15 games standing in front of the ball return. Walter is as one dimensional as a cube.

I agree with most here, he can hook it enough when he needs it.

He made 4 tvs and has 1 win this year at age 49.

Thats enough said.  I would bet money that jones, simard, smith, and all the other power players will not be on tour past 40 let alone 49.

You want a high rev power player fine, but dont complain when they are burnt out and used up, and guys like duke and walter are still winning a few years from now.

Dude I hate WRW, but your dead wrong. He can hook it as well as anyone, but his rev rate rarely allows him to. You don't win that much and make that many shows only doing 1 thing your entire career.

He can stand in the left gutter and hook the lane if he needs to. But as he explained on TV he has to use slower ball speeds for this and his carry suffers.

I think Barnes is greatness. I wish he was the color commentator with Rob Stone instead of Randy Pederson.

I'm just glad Chris kicked butt on WRW, just to watch the looks on WRW's face was priceless!

Are you guys saying WRW can get in and swing it if the lane condition allows him to?  If so then I agree, even though I haven't seen him do in some older videos where I think they were throwing plastic or in the 90s.  Either way he can do it, it's just that most of the conditions they face on tour have him playing straighter because his carry percentage suffers if he plays in to a certain point, right?

I missed this show and really wish I didn't, I'm glad Barnes won and that he's doing better on TV right now.

One dimensional my azz....  You don't win the most tournaments in PBA tour history by being one dimensional....

Briancrx,  If Barnes were to replace Randy he wouldn't be doing too well since that would mean he didn't make the show.  Are you sure that's what you want?
