The history of the Dick Weber Open
« on: January 12, 2006, 02:04:28 PM »
Had a bit of a disagreement with my brother at bowling tonight, so I'd like you to settle it.  I said that the format for this tournament has always been the format as it is this week.

My brother said that before this year it had the same format as all the other tournaments (except the Majors).

Who's right?

This is very close to the old school format. It was not in the lineup the last 2 years.

The tournaments with the different formats were the Masters and the US Open. So - technically, you're both right - since the US Open was held in that house I believe the last 2 years...

Last year this tournament was called the Fountain Valley Orange County Open or something like that and it had old format with the PTQ on Weds. with the Round of 64, 32, 16 and so on on Friday.

Two years ago I believe the US Open was there with 18 games of qualifying ( 3 blocks of 6) and cut to top 24 for Round Robin Match Play.

This was a "Retro" tourney with 15 games of qualifying (3 blocks of 5) and cut to top 24 for Match play
