Title: The official weekly PBA post *spoiler*
Post by: a_ak57 on January 16, 2005, 03:05:51 AM
Yep.  I'll be updating "what's in the bag", and the various scores to the games here.  YOu can discuss stuff.  Woo, bowling!

What's in the bag:

Semifinals
Rober Smith-  Depth Charge and Hot Rod Hybrid
Joe Ciccone-  Ragin Red Fuze
Chris Barnes-  Ball of the week #2823DF...just kidding, i think it's a super trooper
Parker Bohn III- Inferno

Finals
Rober Smith-  Depth Charge
Parker Bohn III-  Inferno

Match Scores:

Match 1:  Robert Smith defeats Ciccone, 268 to 247.
Match 2:  Parker beats Barnes, 279 to 258
Final:  PARKER wins 288 to 235!  Had the front 10, got a little high with the speed and left double wood then picked it up.

WOO BRUNSWICK!!

Skills Challenge:
Brad Angelo defeats Mika 3 strikes to 1, featuring both of them making a strike with 45 pins!!

I never dreamed it would be me, My name for all eternity, Recorded here at this hallowed place Alas, my name, no more my face. "In the line of duty," I hear them say: My family now the price to pay. My folded flag stained with their tears; We only had those few short years. The badge no longer on my chest, I sleep now in eternal rest. My sword I pass to those behind, And pray they keep this thought in mind. I never dreamed it would be me, And with heavy heart and bended knee, I ask for all here from the past: Dear God, let my name be the last.

what I like to see is that in todays show....everyone except for Robert Smith on one lane was using older equipment....and RS changed to only the Depth Charge for the finals.....so it was nice to see that they were'nt using the LATEST/GREATEST stuff out there......and for Parker to win w/ the Inferno......sweet!

Great show today!

Did Smith's comments when he left the 8-10 and then threw the gutter ball make him sound like every house bowler who was lost on a shot that was too easy?

I'm not saying he is, but his words seem to indicate that, as if he had only the 2 choices. Besides, he seems to need the "E" pattern to score well, as if his speed overwhelms his revs. I don't recall if he has made the TV finals on other than the "E" pattern.

Shame, as he can be very talented at times.

Wow, Bohn was simply amazing today. He was absolutely locked in. You could see how determined he was after last weeks loss to Mika. Congrats to Parker!

On an interesting side note....what was Smith's deal? After he left the 8-10 he got REALLY annoying. "What is that...What is that....I've never seen that before!" then he preceded to keep talking after every shot during the final match. It looks like he's playing to the camera...simply awful

yup.

I think the phrase you were looking for, above, Joe, was "One Trick Pony".

When Robert becomes a PBA bowler is when he does what Parker has done, reduce his revs to coordinate with his ball speed. It's really odd that the highest rev bowler in the PBA seems to be only able to conquer the driest oil pattern.
Title: Re: The official weekly PBA post *spoiler*
Post by: laner7pin on January 16, 2005, 03:14:00 PM
Yes Robert Smith does well on Pattern E because of the friction, but dont forget, he won the Japan Cup a couple of years ago, the US Open in 2000 on a very tough pattern, won in New York a couple of years on yes a short sport pattern and made the show in the ToC, 50 feet. Just because he can win on the short pattern doesnt mean he cant compete on anything else. I am a little surprised he hasnt made the show/won on the harder patterns (C & D) yet because of all that power. If he made a speed/rev adjustment he may be able to compete more, then again maybe it would make his game worse who knows. I havent seen today's show yet (work) but will tonight so I will have a better idea of how down he was in the final when I get home.

My take on the show. Barnes showed more class than ever before. A new nickname for Maximum Bob, Crybaby Bob. For the first time in my life I was pulling hard for a lefty. PBIII has more class in his little finger than Crybaby Bob has in his whole body. Good show. Congrats goes out to Parker!

New User,

Please grow up.  I mean when a lefty wins its the shots to easy or there isnt enough bowlers on that side.  But what happens when the opposite is true.  I didnt really see robert smith make a great deal of good shots.  I mean throwing that gutter ball must have put alot of pressure on parker in the finals.  Not to mention that he pretty much imploded on himself.

I am lefthanded and I will tell you what.  Statics must not be your strong suit.  How many left handers won last year.  How many this year.  ONE MAYBE TWO.  Now I ask how many right handers won? uhm let me think MORE THEN THAT.  Grow up you have no idea what your talking about

My take on the show--- two tough beats for Ciccone & Barnes.  They bowled well  but the other two guys had GREAT scores --- 268 & 279....
Lefty or not, my hat's off to Parker B -- He starts with 279 and almost pulled off the perfecto --- Look at the scores of Parker B in the earlier rounds-- He simply got it going and stayed in the groove  (You might have expected this after last week.  He was around the hole last week but just didn't have the carry like he had this week)---Congratulations on win #30 -- He's in some pretty select company..........

I noticed that nobody has mentioned Robert's comment to Parker late in the championship game "finish it out" ... seems pretty classy for a guy that loves this sport, who really wants to win, and who was earlier in this post called a "crybaby" !!! I have met Maximum Bob and have had the opportunity and pleasure to "talk" this game with him ... and although I don't flatter myself to call him my friend, I know him well enough to call him sincere, down to earth, and an everyday guy with a wealth of talent. Go Robert !!!
