WOW... What a finish
« on: February 27, 2011, 05:41:15 AM »
I feel bad for Mika big time!!! But give credit to Norm Duke for adding the pressure too make Mika show up. Just like Shafer did to Bill O'Neil.. Pressure is a ***** For such a short season, this has been very entertaining and drama type year..

Couldn't disagree more. To start with all we have heard is how great Mika is all season long, how he is better than Bill O'neill and Mika is the best bowler in the world.

I think that ol "Best Bowler in the World" term is thrown around too quickly and too loosely these days. For example, how many 10 pin whiffs you ever see WRW Jr. on TV for the cheese? Yes Mika is allowed to miss one, but come on the "best bowler in the world" cant miss that spare!!

Nothing against Mika, he has had a great season, I just think in general when you tag a bowler the best in the world on telecast after telecast, and Joe Blow sees that bowler whiff a 10 by a country mile, the criticism is warranted to a degree.

I know theres no way on this green earth I could have made it in that situation, but others who tuned in and saw that may think they could have.

so because Mika is a pro he is not allowed to miss a spare? QBs in the NFL throw INTs and that is okay? Corners get burned by wide outs and wide outs drop passes that hit them in the hands they should do eveything perfectly?

It happens to pros in all sports, and I know you and I are not perfect with ten pins cause no is.

I think fans should be happy for norm rather then feel bad for MAJOR mika

It would be interesting to translate his tyrant of words. I am sure if it was stated in English he would have some hefty fines.

I don't think it's that he can't miss a spare, I think it's that you can't miss THAT 10 pin in THAT spot with a title on the line.  No one is saying anyone is perfect but you cant throw an INT in the end of the 4th quarter of the super bowl when you are in field goal range.  Week 1 2nd quarter when the score is 7-7, that is different.  Just like Frame 1 of game 5.

Bottom line:  You just HAVE to find a way to make that 10 in that spot with the title and 80 grand on the line.

+1.

Definitely, you know he was going off.  If it would have been me, it would have likely been the quickest break to commercial ever lol.  Norm Duke was definitely gifted that victory.  But, his un-Schlegel like reaction and interview afterwards made me respect him more than anyone on tour now.

Norm was SOMEWHAT gifted that tourney.  Let's not forget him punching out in the 9th and 10th for a TREMENDOUS 220 something game on that pattern.  I'd love to hear what Mika really said.  So brutal and I feel for Mika.

It looked to me like he stuck on the approach.

I saw him look to the sides and let out of torrent of "finnish".

Was there some sort of distraction.

Unfortunate.

Nice 4 bagger by Norm!

Missing a 10 pin in bowling is not even close to throwing an INT or dropping a pass in football.  It is more comparable to a fg kicker missing an extra point - if you go by statistics.  QB's don't complete 95%+ of their passes without an INT.

I definitely didn't forget it.  But to think that a bowler on his level can't fill 16 pins in the tenth for the W?  There really is no way around it though.  Norm put the pressure on Mika, and he buckled.

I think Norm Duke handled the win with Class. He did not rub it in like some others would have. Mika made a good shot and missed the 10 pin. I am sure every Pro has made a mistake in a pressure situation one time. Norm Duke did it a few years ago in a major. My hat is off to Norm for showing a Lot of Class.

Actually now that I think about it to put it in a similar situation where nothing much more could be on the line in a huge event...remember 2007 or 2008 Tournament of Champions finals Patrick Allen vs Rhino Page? Rhino needed either a fill ball or the first ball just to get a mark....can't remember and he was so damn concerned about the shot clock and everything else he threw the one mistake he would would have never done in any other situation and left like 5 pins and gave the title to Patrick Allen who had no business winning the TOC. Nerves were part of this....had to. Mika hardly ever misses 10 pins and he missed it badly and not to mention he looked badly when he attempted to make it. Notice how much he fell off the shot? It wasn't his thumb that was stuck in that spare ball.
