Thoughts on Gary Thorne???????????
« on: January 29, 2012, 06:35:40 AM »
I thought he did a pretty good job except when they had
him looking down on the sheet of paper to read us a story
about getting into bowling. I liked the fact they actually
did a clip on getting into the sport and joining leagues. Thoughts???????

He did ok, not very energetic, kind of dry, thought I was watching a hockey game.

I thought he did just fine for his 1st show. He has been around along time and I'm sure that's because the guy has some talent at what he does. He was kind of dry, but that is his style. I had no problem with it. I thought Stone was way over the top and tired of the Hambone comments.. LOL!!

I enjoyed his commentary, thought he did a good job. He will get better the more he
does bowling.

It was okay.  Not great, not sorry.  You could also tell it was an adjustment for Randy also.  IMO....who cares about finding someone for "color commentary".  Randy has enough color for the show.  Would rather have another expert of the sport in there.  However, with that said, just like Stone, it will take a few weeks to get used to Thorne's style.

I thought his commentary was OKAY and I think that he'll be fine once he does more shows and learns a little more about the sport. However, I prefer the energy of Rob Stone. I know i'm in the minority on that one, but things are just not going to be as excitable with Gary Thorne in the booth.

He did a fine, professional job. He also made Randy sound much better.

He did ok, and seemed to get in it at times.  Then there were some points where you could tell he didn't feel comfortable, such as the segment where he was reading from his notes about joining a league.  However, he did make Randy sound better.  It's probably a case where he needs to get some shows under his belt.

Was okay.  Focal point for me, and always will be, is the bowling itself.  Never thought Fagan would take it with the way he was playing the lanes.

best announcer in nearly 10 years since Thulin left or was fired from what I heard. Ya I think he's pretty good and pretty much dominating compared to Ryan and Stone the last 10 years.

I'm with you.  As long as Rob wasn't literally screaming, I loved him.  I thought Gary was very well prepared for the show (I remember Rob didn't know your thumb makes a sound coming out of the hole), and I'll think he'll be fine...but I miss Rob's energy already.

Agree totally.  I really missed the energy Rob brought just as long as he wasn't literally screaming.  You could tell that Gary tried to bone up on the game before the broadcast but that everything he knew was what Randy and the producers had prepped him with.  Very low key style.  I also thought that as the telecast went along Randy took more and more control.

The telecast however was the best of the season.  Simply due to the fact it was live and the venue was true bowling.  I hate that made for tv stage they've been playing on all season.

Gary will be fine. He'll put the effort in to learn the intricacies and bowlers. also I agree the change in venue seemed like a breath of fresh air.

WSOB flat out SUCKED. We all know that at times we get on a streak, and at times we slump. Can we tell who was on thier A game throughout WSOB?

He was annoying. He read too much from his note cards.
