Pro-Am
« on: January 19, 2008, 02:11:43 PM »
I bowled in a pro-am this morning at Fountain Bowl in California. I saw a lot of pros that bowled the squad before mine, along with the pros that bowled my squad. From my observations, they don't get any nicer than Parker Bohn III and Billy Oatman. Chris Warren and Danny Wiseman were also two pros that I saw really having fun and interacting with the bowlers. Anyone have any pro-am experiences to share?

I have bowled quite a few ProAms and have to agree.  The Pros are awesome.  I find that the Pros take their lead from the amatures.  If the amatures are having fun, the Pros will be more open and friendlier.  If the amatures are quiet, the pros will be also.

I bowled the 5PM squad and had a blast.

How did you bowl?

I have bowled in the Pro-Am at Bradley Bowl in Windsor Locks, CT back in 2005. My experience was unbelievable and so much fun. I found that there were alot of pros that were alot of fun to bowl with. Bowlers like Duke, TJ, PB3, Voss, Barnes, Mika, Brian Gobel, Healey, Wiseman, Maximum Bob all of them are great guys. I was not to impressed though with a few of the bowlers, but it also doesn't surprise me either. I so PDW, Jason Couch, and WRW avoid the crowd and avoid having to sign autographs and just wanted to get to there assigned lanes. As a matter of fact myself and a buddy of mine watched a little kid go up to WRW and ask for a autograph and WRW told the kid that he had to go to his lanes to bowl and walked off. The kid procceeded to get upset and ran to his father. I could not believe he couldn't take two seconds of his time to make that kids dreams come true. This had happened after the pros got there lanes assignments and as they were coming out people were getting autographs signed and WRW went around the huge crowd and walked down the approaches with his equipment to avoid everyone and from autographs. Thats what they are there for is to sign autographs and meet fans of the sport. Since then im not a WRW or Jason Couch fan at all. PDW wasnt that bad but thats just how he is. Other then that I had a great time and also beat all the pros that stepped onto our lanes.

I have to say I was glad to be the only lefty on the pair.  I made one ball change in the 6th or 7th of game 1 and slight line changes over the rest of the set. 207 - 222 - 300 = 729.

I have bowled the US Open Pro Am the last 2 years. I bowled with Loschetter, Malott, Machuga, Healey, Kovuniemi, Haugen, Himmler, Oatman and Williams Jr. Walter Ray was great last year. I got 2 pictures taken with him and he signed for everyone that I saw.

Bowled with Randy Pederson and Norm Duke in Marshalltown, Iowa. They, in my opinion, are two of the class acts of the game of bowling. Norm gave us a few trick shots and Randy was just having fun with us.

I agree with Norm, but when we had Randy all he did was talk with his girlfriend/wife or whatever she was.  She was not bowling and he did not interact with any of the fans beyond shaking hands and saying "Hi" when he came to the lanes.

This year in Medford:
http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=185838&ForumID=86&CategoryID=5

Previous years, I've bowled with Duke, Dave Traber, Mike Edwards, Brian Voss, Hugh Miller, Robert Smith, Machuga, DeLutz, Jurek. I'll try to remember others.
Traber was really nice, as were Voss, Duke, Machuga, and Edwards.
Miller was an A** with a capital A.

Machuga was great - did a whole bunch of trick shots. So did Voss.

I bowled in a pro am with Jason Couch at Kegel before the PBA season started, he and Billy Oatman were both very nice fun to bowl with and talked with all the amuaters.Tommy Jones didn't talk to anyone exept the staff. As for WRW I've never had the chance to bowl with him but since we live in the same area I have seen him at the proshops and I'm constantly hearing stories from other bowlers that have run into him as well. I have never heard a singal negative thing about meeting him. He always has signed autographs and been very friendly to me and everyone else around here.
