I just don't get it...
« on: January 19, 2014, 11:14:23 AM »

If you want to attract new viewers to watch some PBA Bowling (think of blue tint to oil) then why show it at the same time as the AFC Championship game?  Aren't most of these tape delayed?  Is today "live", or am I just silly?  (Don't answer that last question.)

The TAT is the only tournament left.  The Mini is gone, Sanders ran a handicap tournament in it's place.  The High Roller has been gone for a couple years, but has a July tournament scheduled for this year, but is now open to PBA members without a national title.  Super Hoinke is gone.  Big tournament bowling is as dead as the PBA.

The mini is gone? They just ran one in 2012, as well as 2013.. 2012 for sure:

I want to say they also ran an International Eliminator as well. I knew the Super Hoinke is gone, but wasn't sure about the High Roller. That means that the numbers for the TAT should be high, if people want to make it out to it.

There has been no High Roller regular event since July 2012.  No Mini Eliminator since January 2012.  The International Eliminator has been gone since 99 or 2000.  I think Kretzer won the last one for $100k in 99.

I can't imagine there are too many people flocking to Vegas for the TAT as 2 of their 6 qualifying divisions are now handicap.  You don't add divisions like that unless entries are down.

That.... I didn't know. Last I bowled in it, each division was scratch. Do you know why they made that change? It defeats the purpose, and makes someone just want to say "screw it", join an AMF league and enter their 600K POA tournament.

No idea.  The High Roller group bought it from Ed McWilliams a while back and made a few changes.  I don't know when the handicap divisions were added.  I worked the Demo area the first couple of years the tournament went on so I had some insider info then, but that was almost 10 years ago.
