Title: TOC Field Selection
Post by: Wilbert on January 21, 2010, 02:56:15 AM
The TOC field is limited to 64 past champions.  I think the 64 should be all competitive enough to have a chance to win.  However, the have included what I call people that are nice to see bowl again but not competitive.  For example, Carmen Salvino, Don McCune, Dave Soutar, and Roy Buckley.  You may have to include Johnny Petraglia also.  These bowlers fall in the category Hall of Famers and past TOC champions.  I think the field should be expanded to not count these people in the field of 64.  That way, the field would be stronger and the competition tougher.

Every once in awhile, the planets align and something extraordinary happens.  However, I can agree with this.  It is nice to see these guys out there trying to compete.  But, lets face it, they have no chance against the modern player unless it is a lower scoring tournament.  They have all the knowledge in the world.  But, their physical game simply isnt there anymore.

While the raisins might not strap it like the young bucks, many of them have still got game...further, they also tend to (collectively) have a strong enough sense of professional responsibility that individuals who no longer "have game' will often step aside as an event grows closer.

Dave Husted bowled last year - if I remember correctly, he led through either the first 2 or 3 rounds...
