Just a little comment on Greg Norman.

I observed many many many of his losses.  BEfore these miracle shots happened...Very often Greg had leaked during and earlier in the round several short irons right to right in his round leading to many scrambling pars or several bogeys to get his opponent close enough to have a chance for the miracle shot win.

I can mention several off the top of my head....
The 1986 Masters a right to right on 18 to let Nicklaus in.  The Masters against Faldo...1996?  Many right to rights or to get the ball to draw he had to slightly pull it.(like his slight left to left iron on 10).  An Australian tournament to Lee Westwood lost by missing about 5 staight greens in a row with right to right irons down the stretch.  The 1984 US Open to Fuzzy Zoeller with his dramatic slice to miss the green by miles to the right.

Greg Norman was one of the greatest drivers (long AND straight) drivers and long woods and irons players the game has ever seen.  Combined with a wonderful short game that is why he was in contention so so often!

His short irons however had a definite tendency to aim for a draw and leak to the right....over and over again.

MOst of his great titles were won on courses where he had fewer short irons...under a 6 iron!

Above I stand corrected.  Chris Barnes has NO technical flaws in his game.....NONE!  I thought I saw something but I was totally completely wrong.
If that is true...we must go back to the theory that he tightens up!  Just like the popular theory on Norman.

Heading to the optometrist....

I totally agree but he just doesnt have that "Will" power.

for example Micheal Jordan had that "will power" you was always at his mercy Kobe Bryant has skill and Talent but doesnt have that "Will Power"

What will power will prevent your opponent from dropping a 279 on you?  Just curious because I need that power.

That and the fact that this topic is so stupid.  Talking about willpower and comparing Michael Jordan.  First of all, let me know anyone in this thread where defense is locating in the game/sport of bowling.  Maybe I missed something for the nearly 20 years I have been bowling.  Also, why was this thread pushed "TTT" after he lost to a 279.  You all act like you can beat Barnes or something.

I really respect Barnes game. However, you cant deny the fact that he cant close the deal on TV I mean 50 appearances and only 8 wins. I could accept that but when Dave Ryan and Randy Pedersen feel the need to say how clutch he is and many other things it just makes me laugh. Barnes is one of the most talented we have ever seen but isn't in the top ten players all time without a doubt. He's got the skill but not the wins.

Please understand.  I think he is absolutely great.

Very similar to Greg Norman...incredible but with a critical flaw!

In Chris case it is usually the occassionally slam down into the lane at critical times(it has been mentioned by Randy on the show(what does he know).  My instructor and bowling mentor says without question he Chris Barnes is "the BEST".  My instructor bowled on the same pair as Chris during last years US open and was wowed by his versatility talent and REVS.

I cannot beat Chris Barnes or compete with him.  Yet I agree with Randy Pederson on this occassional flaw.

As to having a 279 layed on him...I thought Chris bowled wonderful the other day(without the flaw) very similar to his win earlier this year!  He just got beat by a guy on fire!

I believe without this occassional flaw I see on TV he would have near 15 to 20 wins at this time.

We all know he can compete on any condition.

In a competition like bowling/golf you are going to get beat at times just because of the competition. Look a Jack Nickalus he was beaten head to head several times by trevino, watson, etc. But overall he prevails.

WWR is little more than 50-50 in title matches. I don't believe Earl was much better. Sometimes you just get beat.

But Barnes also beats himself which the others seldom do.

I remember a TOC against Couch where he flagged an 8 pin about the 7th fram to looose by less than 10. Another tourny where he missed a 2-4-5 and several others wher he threw bad shots late to lose.

Marshal holman got like this for a while, Parker has gone thru stretches where they throw critical bad shots that cost them matches. They seem to expect the bad break to happen.

Barnes is a great talent, a great qualifier, a good champion but he has yet to show me the TV moxie to win single game matches regualrly.

Right.  I can see people's Barnes argument but I just don't think this particular match is a good example of it.  I don't think his "head" made TJ shoot a 279.

The 07 TOC was not a Barnes choke job.  He threw it as well as anybody could have hoped, especially on that obscenely long TOC pattern.  And he has proven to be one of the most versatile on tour, behind Norm Duke alone, from what I've seen.  But he couldn't carry with TJ last Sunday.

Truth be told, there aren't many that could have.  Norm couldn't, Tony couldn't, and Chris couldn't, and they are obviously all very good players.  If there was ever a tournament to dismantle the opinion that the cranking doesn't have some very considerable benefits, it's this one.  Or maybe we should look back at Couch's 3-peat at the TOC.

The game has changed from the Roth vs. strokers days.  Clearly, TJ and Couch have proven that they are versatile and consistent enough to play on tough patterns, and they very often out-carry their competition when the ball gets to the pins because they can combine revolutions with consistency.  The TOC was not blind luck, or half-pocket, or whatever excuses you want to give.  TJ's revs gave him more area to play with, and obviously plenty of power at the pins.  And anybody who's watched enough telecasts with the TNV knows that that ball thrives in the swish zone.

That kind of power isn't ugly.  It's nasty.  Not sucking up to TJ, but that was impressive.

ok, time to throw my .02 cents in! chris barnes: i don't know really how to put it; i think he's an under-acheiver in relation to the physical game he has. this time he threw it well and just got rolled over by the tj express.
tommy jones:you guys are getting a taste of what we've been seeing in the carolinas for years now, tj is the man! tv doesn't do tommy justice. and yes that is about as straight as tj will get!
by the way, on one of the practice sessions in between breaks, did anyone notice cb throwing that 200 grit epx?!!! i know the lanes were tough, but even randy and couch commented on how much cb and tj broke them down. i think that only took norm and tony out of the equation because of cb and tj's rev rates.

TJ and CB did a pretty good job burning up Norm's hold area before the event started, that seemed apparent.  Norm did his best to deal with it, though, as Norm always does, but he was obviously out of his comfort zone.

Tony has surpised me, he's pretty versatile.  I didn't think he'd be as good as hooking it as he was last week, and if I saw anything in this week, it was patience, and Tony had that.

I am not going to lie, I cannot stand Barnes, but he definitely has a great game, and is an awesome bowler. But till he does what you all say he can do, or just win a little more, he is just Rated O.
