Oh... but it was the 50 feet of oil! It has really been EASY on the pros the last 3-4 years, shooting 240+ all over the place!

You have to remember that length isn't everything.  40' of heavy oil will seem slicker than 50' of light oil.  I'm not sure if it's still the case, but Cheetah, the shortest pattern, has the highest volume of oil.  You have to take everything into account when attacking a shot.

We mentioned this on the chat.  It's a different center this year.  The last few years have been at Mohegan Sun on specially-constructed, barely used (i.e., brand new) synthetics.  This year they're at a real bowling alley on a different surface and with different oil.  The lanes are well-used and they're a different kind of synthetics (I'm pretty sure).

Add all those things up and there's no telling how it's gonna play.

i thought the TOC was supposed to be tough too.......

Oh well, I guess averaging high is the only way that non-bowling fans will watch.

I was always a fan of the 1-0 baseball game myself.

Or when Angelo and Barnes shot 160-150 (that was a great match to watch... for a real bowling fan I mean)

Nails has a very good point.  Length of an oil pattern isn't everything.  Does anybody know what the transfer rates/flow rates of the Authority 22 for this Tour stop?

Bowling on 50' of light oil and a 50' flood is like night and day.  If it was a 50' flood, the balls would probably rooster tail when it hit the lane.

First match 215-213
Finals 216-215

Scores were up for the week, but not exactly a strikefest on the show.

There is no way that was the shot they put out the last few years. Tommy Jones was hitting the ball as hard as he could last year and he was still only getting the ball to hook a few boards, theres no way those guys were bowling on the same shot.

I forgot to mention the practice time the bowlers are allowed before the match.  The X-number of minutes(30?) the bowlers are allowed is plenty of time for them to create a track area, especially when most of them use dull particle balls.  That practice time can make event the hardest patterns seem easy.

The other things, as mentioned already, to think about the way patterns play on tv are: lane surface, tv lights, oil used.  Pro Anvilane will be alot different than HPL, as Pro Anvil is the hardest, slickest surface used currently.

I was in Vegas watching and I asked the same thing, expecting 50ft of oil. We asked Jim Tomek, who was there, and he said it was a modified Masters shot at 39 Feet of oil.
