GRRRRRRRRR!!! the only Tx stop is way out west in El Paso...way to far for this Houston fella.
El Paso is a million miles from any other real city in Texas. What numbskull decided that would be a good place for the Texas stop?

People its very simple.....the PBA doesnt choose where we go, the centers choose where the PBA goes. Obviously nobody in Florida has wanted a tour stop since we went to Orlando several years ago and nobody in Dallas stepped up to host a stop this year. The change in locations for the majors was done to spread things out a bit and give us some more flexibility

Thank God the US Open is back at Carolier in Jersey!!!!
-
Why was it said that last year was the final year of a contract with Carolier. It was rumored to be going elsewhere this year. I see that was false.
-
Woohoo!!!! Finally something near me. I shall be visiting the Spartanburg, SC tournament. Kinda shocked at the center that got it as I never really considered Shamrock to be National Stop material. Oh well.

I think it's pretty sad, that of 5 major cities in Texas, the PBA couldn't get a single house in any of them to host an event. Instead you have to go El 500 miles into the middle of nowhere Paso.

Man...they aren't going to Mohegan Sun this year for the T-o-C...guess I'll have to try to go to the Morwich, CT stop this year to see them bowl.

May not be national stop material, but they obviously have national stop funds.

There r only a few place in texas that i think even have the money to go for a stop. The problem is, centers like copperfield bowl, here in houston, already has a bunch of things going on. For 1, the league/open play they lose fot the full week. For 2, we have 1 or 2 regional stops, as well as a few other decent sized tournaments there.
Other than copperfield, i dont think we have another center in houston that is nice enough, or has enough money.

God Damnit they are not coming back to Dallas/Fort Worth with all the attendence they got? What's the matter PBA? Was Irving too hard of a house for you because it was the one house the top 32 didn't have to hit 230 to qualify for match play? Sure it isn't former Don Carter's in Dallas but is still a fine house for a PBA tournament. Don Carter's switched management and the house is under a new name and the place is a joke. I heard on weekends they cover up the lanes and have poker tournaments. Used to be nice. We also have a Don Carter's 64 lane center in Fort Worth that has held a PWBA tournament and Forum Lanes which is old and needs a ridiculous facelift and remodel is still around in Grand Prarie.
What did El Paso do to deserve another tour stop so quickly? There should be an annual tour stop here. Must be nice that freakin big city of Medford gets a tour stop every year. I know the players like it and the management is great but I also wonder if it's also just because Holman lives there. And Vernon Hills, Hawthorne Lanes? You mean Spigner's cheater alley. That bowling alley is ridiculous. Must be nice to have 10 boards of room on the scorpion pattern, stripping the backends beyond clean and having springboard kickbacks. Also sad that Florida still doesn't have a tour stop.
Speaking of annual stops it should be a crime there isn't a stop at Eastway Lanes in Erie. There is not a finer bowling alley and better fans there.
Truth is we need more stops! There is not enough. Also, there is a problem in this country that there is not enough big alleys being built. Do you know of any "new" bowling alleys (not entertainment centers) being built? Also, the PBA has to inspect the alleys they are going to. If there is not at least 50 lanes, a large locker roon area, large space from the pit to the back of the alley and a large pit areas for the bowlers the PBA will not be interested. This is why the one in Dallas was hands down the best for PBA tournaments because of the amount of lanes, the space and the levels in between the back of the lane to the back of the house.

Could it be because DFW didn't WANT the stop? To be honest, the houses lose money during the week and a lot of them have decided that it's not worth shutting down their house to outside business (as far as bowling and leagues that is.)
Medford keeps getting it because the proprietor wants them there and we have done enough for the PBA to keep wanting to come back. Holman does participate during the week but really doesn't have a lot to do with them coming.

Alright then Brian you build a center and then pay the fees that the PBA wants just to host the tournament. If you want to build JUST a BOWLING CENTER and see how it goes then go ahead. Most of the places being built now are FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT CENTERS to try to make the almighty dollar off of every foot possible. With just a bowling center it is hard to make ends meet. I know Lightning Strikes was a HUGE favorite of the players both years the PBA stopped there but they also do not have a stop due to them not wanting to the high price just to host the stop.

Tulsa had a tour stop a couple of years ago, but the qualifying/match play center didn't really have that many fans there throughout the week as did the arena finals at the Mabee Center. Personally, I don't the Oklahoma Bowling Association and the Tulsa Bowling Association advertised or pushed the PBA tourney out there enough. Sure enough, next year there was no Oklahoma stop.
Oklahoma used to be a good tour stop back in the 80's. It can be again if these AMF centers and other centers can get their heads out of their butts!

Hi Sixkiller, not to be a smarta55 but the Tulsa Championship finals were held at the Reynolds Center (TU Basketball Home Court) not the Mabee Center. Needless to say I was very disappointed at the crowd who turned out to watch. I had to work that day, otherwise I would've been there myself. It was an embarrassment to see all of those empty seats, and that doesn't look good for the PBA in general since it was the first stop of that year.
I believe round and match play was held at The Lanes at Coffee Creek in Owasso, just north of Tulsa. They're a brand new center in the middle of nowhere, compared to the other centers in and around town. Also the first center in the area to use all Brunswick lanes, scorekeepers, pinsetters and related equipment. All the others use good ol AMF.
I too remember Oklahoma having very good tour stops for both the PBA and LPBT/PWBA. I used to bowl the Pro-Am for the Claremore Classic at Cedar Lanes (Now Country Club Lanes) in Claremore for many years during LPBT's stint there. That placed used to look immaculate. Now it's nothing more than a 5hithole and a half. I wouldn't throw a house ball down those lanes with all the scuffs, scratches and cracks you get now.
It's just too disappointing that bowling in Oklahoma is dying a slow death. Even the Oil Capital Tournament, which used to be the biggest tournament in the Southwest is being threatened with extinction. I used to work at Sheridan Lanes in High School over 10 years ago. Every year the Oil Capital came to town it was so busy you would get claustrophobia from all the people around you. I bowled it last year and there was barely anybody there.
I certainly hope the bowling community is better in your part of Oklahoma, because it sure as hell doesn't look it in the Tulsa area. You can PM me if you wanna talk more about it.

I know what it costs to build a real, big bowling alley I also know how much a center to hold a PBA tournament would cost to build and what it costs to host a tournament. I also know I could do a better job then most bowling alleys. That is all besides the point. Saying something that "entertainment centers" are the only establishments that are making money is insulting and a joke.
