Happened to be in Vegas and saw the show taped.  Won't spoil it by revealing the outcome but IMO everyone will want to see this show.

a senior player from hancock, maine, sim dysart, won the $150,000. although he advanced through regional competition and i'm happy for him, this says something less than positive about the pba. when pete weber got up in the 10th frame to bowl he was heard to say, "wow, i've never bowled for this much money !"  here we have amateur sim dysart, a senior who retired from the military, a typical league bowler so to speak, gets a chance to bowl for $150,000 and actually wins it. yet, we have pba member and hall of famer pete weber step up on the approach and he's never had the chance to win this much money----what is wrong with this picture ?

Like Ryan Shafer said yrs ago about the original shootout, amatuers bowling for that sort of cash, wrong!!!!!!! That kind of money is for pros only. Megabucks its not so 'bad' now that they are only 20-30000K for first now.

All Sim really wanted to do was meet Pete and shake his hand b/c he met Pete's dad years ago at an event(or something), and he walks away w/ the money. That's kind of a nice reward if you ask me.

The real tragedy was that the winner only threw 3(?) strikes, and only one in the pocket, and he walks away with all the cash.  He threw it really straight, so it wasn't like the lanes were fooling him.  It looked like he had a hard time getting the ball to come off his hand clean.

How were the 2 pros and 2 amateurs selected?  You could argue about which two pros to select, anf the left handed amature was pretty good, but surely there had to be a better candidate than Sam.  If it was a mega buck type progression, either there was a lot of handicap, hard lane conditions where Sam's straight approach would be a benefit, or he was fortunate that his opponents fell just a little short each game.

The best part of the show was when the lefty amatuer crotch chopped P. W.

I think that's why Pete and Chris were more nervous about winning.  They are way, way better than Sim, no one could ever hope to say otherwise.  But that type of game is the ultimate short-format tournament.  One ball, that's all.  We see people say that anyone can beat a pro in a one-game match, but the cream rises to the top in longer format tournaments.  That's even more true when you're talking about one-ball matches, anyone can strike at any time, and a pro can leave a single pin at any time.  In a full game, PDW or Barnes can build up a lead so insurmountable by the sixth or seventh frame that they could go home before the end of the game, but on a single shot, the odds they strike are not much different from anyone else's.

Pete threw that shot wide on purpose.  I've never seen Pete drift so far left in all the years I've watched him bowl.  He drifted way left and pushed the ball so far right that there was no way he was trying to strike.  He was trying to leave something around the 2-10 area, and he did.

It looks good that the AM won the money, and I am sure Pete and Chris Barnes were paid pretty good to show up for the event.

I think Pete was fooled by the shot. A shot or 2 prior to his last went way wide & to his surprise the ball came back for a strike. That is if I recall correctly because I did not record it.
