Touring Players Championship

Today, the PBA has the following majors: Tournament of Champions, World Championship, US Open, and USBC Masters.

What ever happened to the Touring Players Championship?

I know that the National Championship was renamed the World Championship and the ABC Masters (now USBC Masters) was made a PBA major event.

No, the ToC has always been around.  I think it was just another tournament.  Honestly, I can't see much difference between that and the National Championship or the US Open (possibly save the oil pattern).  Lots of games, lots of competition.  Sure it's hard but it seemed no different from other majors.  They may have felt it overlapped with the others.

Yeah, I could see the overlap with having the TPC when you already have 4 majors.

What the PBA really needs is to have a doubles event which gives an exemption to the PBA tour to the winners.

I miss seeing the doubles event as an official PBA tour event.

I'd love to see a little more variety in the formats.  The Dick Weber Classic had a three-game sweeper to determine the final two bowlers, I thought that was pretty cool.  A doubles tournament would be cool, too.

you know what would be cool, a "Special Event" where the fans vote for two 5 man teams and they bowl baker games...

Not sure what the stakes would be for the winners, but that would be cool...
