Judging from the state of the PBA, are they by any chance Alderwoods Group Inc and Service Corporation International?  http://www.sci-corp.com/SCICORP/home.aspx

Why doesn't the billionaire owner put some of his own money into the prize fund and attract more bowlers to bowl for like 100k a tourney instead of like what, 15k. Get a new advertising team to promote it more and yes, do LIVE broadcasts. The owner should know, to make money, you've sometimes gotta spend it.

They did when they purchased the PBA to avoid the PBA going bankrupt is from what I heard.  1 owner I think is no longer an owner and got out last year or a couple of years ago.  I can't see any way they would put anymore of their own money into it.

Got to spend money to make money. I would say the WSOB and several shows not being on TV are all ways of not spending money. So if you keep cutting and keep cutting but in turn aren't getting more viewers or money from sponsors, or interest, then eventually you will have nothing. Since the PBA tour is now the PBA West Coast Regional Circuit how do you expect to get more fans to come out to LIVE events and see what the tour is really about? Oh and cheer on their favorite bowlers would also be nice.

The owners that bought the PBA just over a decade ago lost about $30 million trying to make the PBA bigtime. Can't blame the two who are left for wanting to break even now.

Those constant changes are why so many people are no longer watching. I am one.

They took a national tour and moved it to a small regional area.

They took it from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon against the most popular sport viewer rating wise in the country the NFL.

They went through constant format changes. Often changing from one event to the next.

Gold pins.

Then went to less bowling and more commercials. They then fast tracked every match on TV.

Then they started making some events pay-per-view online.

There are several other things I'm sure I have overlooked. In the end, they got what they made of it. By trying to change something that had appeal to its niche market, and change it to have more mass appeal they were able to alienate their niche market and never got close to mass appeal.

You are right in much of what you say, but you have a few inaccuracies here and need a little history lesson from a geezer.

Saturday afternoons ended in the late 1990s. The last ABC show was 1997 in Fairview Hts., Ill.  The new owners started on a Tuesday night right after 9/11 attacks. Eventually they went to Sunday afternoons.

I don't think gold pins were ever used under the new owners.

Back in the days of live shows on network TV they fasttracked ALL THE TIME to get the show done in time.

The PBA was dead and about to go bankrupt when the new owners bought it. They poured tens of millions into trying to make it bigtime. Did they make all great decisions. Of coruse not. But without them where we are now is likely where we would have been in 2001 -- IF anyone had put up money to keep PBA going at that time.

Gold pins would have been in the late 90s early 2000s. Im not as young as I would like to be so it blurs. The fast tracking of today on taped shows is really annoying. Watch frames 1-4  go to commercial, come back, then track to the 10th and then go to the next match. Why even bother showing it at all.

To me they should be trying to get the tour back national in some of the great big market areas like before and get your product where fans can come see them live. You can in turn generate new fans. Give people the chance to see how tough they conditions are and how great the bowlers are.

Allow amateurs the opportunity to compete in all tournaments and move the tournaments from region to region.

Use the extra "donor" money (after expenses to cover the addional bowlers) to raise the prize fund.  This will also help to show the difference in skill level  needed to compete.

I am with ya on this stuff! And so is PBA -- they would LOVE to tour 35 weeks a year or so.

Pretty much everything wrong with the PBA can be solved with money = TV rights fees and/or sponsor $$$.

You find a way to get that and they will probably make you CEO LOL!
